An interesting note by Ron gluckman- STAGING AN OLYMPICS involves more energy and preparation than any marathon. Long years of planning are generally followed by a few months of manic construction in the final sprint, leading to a finish line of near-total panic.

Then, for two or three weeks, amidst the bright glow of television spotlights, the world celebrates not only the finest athletes from around the globe, but also the acumen and architecture of the host nation.

If all goes well, after the medals are awarded, the blood tests scrutinized, and the bags packed, the lights go out once again for another four years. And the host nation, along with all the fine facilities it designed and built at great expense especially for the Olympics, instantly become yesterday’s news.

China learnt a good lesson from Montreal olymics and the 2004 Greece olympics.

Weeks in the staging, but nearly a decade in the planning, the legacy of these Olympic Games is likely to be far more long lasting than the TV images. China not only excelled on the tracks and in the stadiums, but showed with the right attention to detail behind the scenes, a grand Olympics can also be green and pay dividends for the host community for years to come.
Anyway this will be the last of any major sport india will host.As Kalmadi will be removed and we cannot get more dishonest person than him anymore. Jai Ho

Removing or replacing XYZ person cannot do any wonder!
We Indians, are basically corrupt in nature(though we maintain a high moral). untill, this attitude will change, we will not be able to orgnise any major event, feat etc......
We have to agree that corruption is formost in our mind and we value these......
You say, any major corruption punishment/ indicment/ scam in past one or two decade????? by the time, matter makes any little headway, an era passes...........

Do you think are we Indians going to learn from this faisco?
No, attitude has yet to be changed......

by anuradhakumari on Sep 08, 2010 11:34 PM

The Indra Dev is testing the quality of work done at CWGames......

Indians wonder whther our players who play for our motherland will ever get opportunity to play in these so called grand staduims, facilities etc.?
What will happen to world sports if we get a chance to host OLYMPICS anytime???????

It seems, we have lost SHAME also.... Such nautanki would not have ever happened in any developed country (the countries we envy and say we are going to get ahead of them)

Realising our true potential
by anuradhakumari on Sep 08, 2010 11:26 PM  | Hide replies

We common Indians only have to think for the country's betterment....

With so called unbriddled loot of CWG, plunder of environment, jungles in the name of development, desruction of mangrooves, naxal problems, inflation, rottening of food grains etc. etc., we Indians expect our Union and state govts. to be proactive to instill a sense of confidence, moral in common Indians!

God help Indians to come out of their helplessness..................................................................................

wages and CWG
by suresh iyer on Sep 08, 2010 11:20 PM

Campaigners in India have accused the organisers of enormous and systematic violations of labour laws at construction sites. Human Rights Law Network reports that independent investigations have discovered more than 70 cases where workers have died in accidents at construction sites since work began. Although official numbers have not been released, it is estimated that over 415,000 contract daily wage workers are working on Games projects.Unskilled workers are paid 85 to 100 Indian rupees (INR) per day while skilled workers are paid 120 to 130 INR per day for eight hours of work. Workers also state that they are paid 134 to 150 INR for 12 hours of work (eight hours plus four hours of overtime). Both these wages contravene the stipulated Delhi state minimum wage of INR 152 (approx. US$3) for eight hours of work.
These represent violations of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948; Interstate Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Condition of Services) Act 1979, and the constitutionally enshrined fundamental rights per the 1982 Supreme Court of India judgement on Asiad workers. The public have been banned from the camps where workers live and work – a situation which human rights campaigners say prevents the garnering of information regarding labour conditions and number of workers. There have been documented instances of the presence of young children at hazardous construction sites, due to a lack of child care facilities for women workers. CORRUPT attitude
by anuradhakumari on Sep 08, 2010 11:19 PM

with only corruption in mind, this so called fiasco (CWG) will go a long way for world to realise our mentality!
some say, we Indians must support the CWG in true spirits for the COUNTRY and sports but at the same time those who expect this from helpless and innocent indians are silent on the free, unbridled loot power of some great indians who think everything except the Reputation of our motherland and for the value of sports?????
Any convincn answer?????? from any Great Indian (sorry, we have ceased to be Great)
