There is definitely a lack of competition in CWG. Many top athletes are missing from delhi games. But i guess, the competition levels in all the CWG games, is not up to the standards of olympics or even asian games. Even after grabbing around 50 medals and finishing fourth in both the london and melbourne cwg, the beijing olympics which came later in 2008, saw india winning only 1 gold and 2 bronze. Lets hope that will not be the case in 2012 olympic games in london

why you are so negative...even CWG have around 70 nations participating and many of this are well developed than India...so winning medals in CWG is a big achievement...have you ever won any medals in your life or have you participate in any games Mr.Rajan???

No dear friend. I am not an athlete or any one related to sports in real life. But since being an indian citizen, i guess i have the right to air my views. And about the 70 odd countries participating, could u tell me one nation other than australia, canada, england and south africa to an extent who has a brilliant track record in sports? If we are spending 70,000 crores (which is infact the tax payer's money and a time when two thirds of a billion population is below poverty) then i believe that it should have some values. But even after such huge spending, we had to suffer so much shame infront of the international world

Do u think our cwg performance is a real indicator of our emergence in sports?

Well Mr. Rajan, I agree that we still have a long way to go but certainly these are some kind of silver lining. Look at the bronze medal in floor gymnastics, at least we have something to show in areas we were totally invisible earlier. Maybe looking at these results, more and more youngsters will adopt other sports than cricket.

See don't think that am an anti national. I am really a sports enthusiast and i follow all games which india have a decent representation. If indeed the sport of gymnastics is developing then i will be more happy like all of u. But i wonder whether, it is bcoz of the lack of competition in gymnastics. If it is not like that, i am really happy for them and our country

But please look at the 70 countries participating. Other than australia, england, canada and south africa there is no other team with any potential at all. papua new guinea, pakistan, srilanka, many african countries etc are some of the participating countries I think rather than bidding for cwg and spending 70,000 crores, we could have made a bid for asian games
