The Deal is, we are still holding CWG in India, which is basically indicatuion we are not out of the RAJ mentality.
Pre-independence congress leader fought/negotiated.made deal with Britishers to get independence and after independence, we are still celebrating "Common Wealth" games.

Who cares Prince Charles
by da dude on Oct 02, 2010 10:03 PM

People should not give too much importance to British Monarchy. CWG is about sports and importance should be given to sports only. Ofcourse we should be proud of opening ceremoney etc.. But giving media coverage for Prince Charles is a waste. Queen would have been a different story. Her absence is an act of snub. So India should play it politically, President Patil should inaugurate the games not Charles. Charles can be a guest of honour. Thats it.

Rabri would have been better choise
by guru on Oct 02, 2010 09:56 PM  | Hide replies

Rabri devi could have been better choise to open this game rather than following this colonial master. When will India come out of this midset ? Do we really need 70,000/- Cr worth of expenditure when formers who feeds us are dying ? It is just an idea to loot the money.

And,where did you get this figure Rs 70,000 crores ? Its USD 6.54 billion or Rs 36,000 crores..huge chunk of this was for Delhi Development Authority..the CWG budget is only Rs.1600 crores..in this cricket crazy nation, atleast this is one good thing that has happened to other sports,or else these money would have been also swindled out in some other way...
Nothing would have changed in the situation, even if CWG was not held...

Holding an international mega sports event is a soft power and winning medals in such events is the exhibition of our youth's strength and power..these things matter in today's world..

Despite media allegations of ineptness, delays, cheating and quality, India has proved that all is well that ends well.
