India's performance is super bad in these Asian Games. In 2006 India won 10 golds, 17 silver and 26 bronze. And this time they have won 11 gold, 14 silver and 31 bronze with games finishing tomorrow. There is hardly any improvement. Who says India is a superpower. They are beaten even by Taipei which is a miniscule country and has won 13 golds.
In sports like womens' tennis, contribution of Sania can't be measured in medals or tournament triumphs. Before her india's presence in womens' tennis was insignificant in the world arena. It's her who got some glory, limilight, even though she couldn't live up to her potential. But bigger gain is many young indian girl would try to follow her legacy(may be without her marriage) and hopefully we get a few champions out of them. The similar efect we observed with Anna Kournikova.
She herself was never very successful but could sucessfully glamarised the sports in russia and thats what produced around 10 russians in top 20. Once i heard demetieva saying this in an interview.
There are atleast 10 other who participate in this Asia and won gold medals for India, but it is ridiculous that media including rediff don't publish any articles/interviews featuring them, but still go behind this looser!! In a way it might be good because media attention may spoil those other dedicated sportspersons who are giving out to everything to achieve something for the country.
