I read quite a few messages criticizing Tintu's strategy . I may not be an experienced coach but I feel the problem wasn't with strategy . There are two types of middle distance runners - the hard workers who build up stamina and conserve energy initially and the natural runners who settle into a rhythm right from the start and depend on it to get far ahead of the rest . Tintu obviously belongs to the second group and asking her to change her running style may be counterproductive . What she needs to do is build up more stamina to maintain her initial rhythm . Hopefully two years of hard work should get this talented runner ready for the olympics of 2012 . She can get a gold ( yes i meant gold and not any medal there )
our athletes are competing hard and have won gold medals. Heartly congratulations to Joseph and Ashwini. Still rediff has posted this btch message as headline..somdev has won two gold medals n tennis by defeated two higher ranked opponents but still not n headline news..u will never grow up rediff and pls if not encouraging but don't discourage young athletes like me.
• It was a special day for India at Asiad when we saw our athletes trying to put their best to achieve the superlative performance. Our hearts were swelling up with pride when one by one they picked up three golds for India. • In my yesterday’s summary ,I expected 3-4 golds today, the actual result was close to it.
• It was heartening to see GanapathiPallackalAbrahamJoseph and AkkunjiAshwiniChidananda running for their lives to fetch two golds in men’s and women’s 400m hurdles.TintuLuka although led most part of the race, finally had to settle for a bronze in 800 m as she ran out of steam towards the end.
• Vikash Krishan brought home a boxing gold after 12 years gap in Asiad.Dinesh Kumar settled for bronze.
• Indian hockey team got a bronze so did Mausam Khatri broke the deadlock in wrestling.
• 3 gold,1 silver,3 bronze, not a bad day at all !We moved upto 8th position in the medal chart with 53 medals(10 gold,14 silver,29 bronze) and equaled with the medal haul of Doha Asiad.

..there is a small correction,Dinesh got the silver and I wrote bronze by mistake..we also have atheletes in shotput event tomorrow..
Disappointing to see Tintu finishing in 3rd place. Its shocking to see she has not learned from her commonwealth games mistake. Coaches need to sit down with her and explain about strategy. In modern era when it comes to middle distance races, no one wins the race if you run away from the pack in the beginning of the race, you will be chased done as sheep is chased down by a wolf. You have to stay behind the leader and then make your move in the last 200 - 100 mts. This way you will have saved your energy for the final push and also take the leader by surpise. You could clearly see Tintu had no energy left for the last 50 mts, if she had a good strategy and stayed behind the leader until last 150 mts she would have won the gold.
