Whether any other Indian knows it or not, the world knows it and recognizes it. Anand also has Spanish citizenship & well known in the Chess world. Kudos to Anand for whatever he did to make India proud. One might ignore Anand and irritate the Tamilians bringing a regional angle which gets compensated by Azhagiri kind of rots.

no one can have dual citizenship. anand resides in spain. that does not mean he is spanish citizen. you see the color of the flag that he sports while playing. dont make horrible statements like this

Yet we Indians jump when any Indian abroad achieves something but never care when they are in distress. If it is cricket we would have given a BMw car to the captain..and what not.Do not fret over citizenship. He should stay in a county where chess is highly commended

Viswanathan Anand's mothers words
by vathula on May 12, 2010 01:32 PM  | Hide replies

Anand's mother Susheela was happy with his son's achievement but winning titles is not the only thing she wants from her son.

"I want him to continue to be a nice man. Anybody can be good in games but I want him to be a nice person also," she said.

Hail Sarfaraz..the new King who wishes to take stage. King Sarfaraz plans to take on Anand in the next championship, and the odds are that the game will be over in less than a minute. Sarfaraz has great potential..he can beat Anand combined with 100 computers. I just wish he shows his face to all of us ordinary mortals.

Two Reasons make the victory REALLY special...

1. Anand chose to play the WCC in Bulgaria(Topalov's Home Country) whereas he had every right to decline it. There is a FIDE regulation that a player may refuse to play in the country of his opponent and he doesnt risk being disqualified. Even the legendary Kramnik said in an interview that he would squarely refuse to play in Sofia ! Topalov enjoyed a huge home advantage. To put it mildly, it is equivalent to taking on a hungry lion.. in its OWN DEN !

2. Topalov and his team are notorious in using "below the waist" offboard tactics to disorient and unsettle the opponent. "Toiletgate", Elista 2006, where they accused Kramnik of cheating, insulting and tarnishing his image, without providing a shred of evidence. Anand had to pre-empt such psychological attacks and prepare for that as well...

Despite the fact that we did not see Anand at his best.. in terms of preparation(1st game debacle in the Gruenfeld) and his apparent rustiness(missed multiple wins in game 9)...this is one well deserved VICTORY. Anand was very reticent during the post game press conferences of all games... cleary indicative of the fact that "he's in no mood to talk" and his sole objective is to win the match.

By defeating his 2 main adversaries, Kramnik and Topalov in World Championship Matches... he's proved beyond any doubt that he's "SIMPLY THE BEST C

Today, I saw more news coverage to Indian cricket team which was knocked out of the world cup than to Anand's victory. They have given more importance to the loser than achievers. What a shame

its not a shame...cuz, we dont get jubilant by Anand' victory.. in otherwords, we dont get emotional...whether anand wins or loose, we dont get any reaction...thats the fact... chess is not cricket.. chess is ASS game...putting ass on the chair.
