only way
by JingurDe Langoor on Mar 05, 2010 12:37 PM

only way to improve the game is by keep playing them with good team....so india should keep playing even after World cup and IHF and indian sports ministry should help for we see them giving lot of gifts for indian criketrs ..need to stop this as they already get a lot form IPL and sponsors s spend those money on these sports men( i love criket by the way)....we cannot imagine even our criket team to win if they just play world cup matchs or one or two match every year...so go for series aganist counties good or bad it give exposure and also team unity and helps to improve combination....no rocket science here but then who has time to do this officals are busy in filling their pockets

International Player?
by gayatri on Mar 05, 2010 12:36 PM  | Hide replies

i am surprised to see these indian hockey players at international level. they canot hold the stick properly, how can one expect winning matches. They are fit to play in domestic level only. still they are barking in front of media & comparing themselves to cricketers. at least our cricketers are put us at the top of the world.
If india wants to win more matches in hockey, first all the sings should be sacked & the opportunities should be given to people like arjun hallpa.
very dissapointed hockey by india

Top of the world.
The world doesn't even know cricket.
If ever the world does play, see the fate of Indian cricket.
Anyway, just one world cup win.
Much better achievements in hockey history.

i agree tht their might be politics in team selection but we need to support the game....after so much fans ,money facility and crazy for the game india have won just one world cup in criket and its after 3-4 decades tht we came top in criket so we need to keep patience with this game as well and support them ....if we support forget abt goverment atleast hockey will get some sponsors with which people will start palying the game and some facilities will also come

Dear Gayatri,
A great Rome was not built in a Day, and you cant expect the superstars overnight. Understand the situation of our International Hockey Stars, they dont have sophisticated Guards and minimum accessories even and how can they win a World Cup to you. This is most silly thing. Even you cricketers are also not came overnight as No. 1 in the world.

So instead of commenting please do encourage the players.

India has some real gud talent in Arjun Haalappa, Vikram Pillai, Rajpal, Chandi, Sandeep Singh etc, but they need some exposure and have to work on their speed and improve it.

Indian team
by pratik nidhi bhardwaj. on Mar 05, 2010 12:21 PM

go to semi final if australia and spain both lost or draw the remaining match.Team india must win their two matches and hope pakistan also lost or draw one match. This is only done if south africa and england played well. But I think india did not deserve to play semi final. If they placed no. 6 this will be 8th worder in the world.

You will have to deliver first!
by Anurag Sinha on Mar 05, 2010 12:20 PM  | Hide replies

The whole nation is disappointed with the performance of our team. Any amount of post mortems will not yield any positive results except for placing the blame on to the players, IHF, Coach, infrastructure etc. What players need to realise is that performances like the one against Spain & Australia will force their fans to go back to cricket where they have something to cheer about. When that happens, the Sponcers will also look the other way. Thus, it becomes a loose-loose situuation for the players. Under these circumstances, the need of the hour is that all the players should put their head together and think that the real hochey is played within 23 yards of the opponent's half where our players tend to run short of ideas. No amount of controlling the mid-field or the skills displayed anywhere else would result in a win. Attack in strength in those 23 yards with neat passes, short dribbles and look for the legs of opponents rather than going in for specticular goals. Remember, no one will bother about you if you fail to deliver!

We watched them play neat passes inside our own half, good dribbling skills inside our 'D' and effective clearances on numerous ocassions. But the same skills were not seen when we went for attack!

want money without effort
by AMARNATH MOURYA on Mar 05, 2010 12:11 PM  | Hide replies

Our Hockey team want to earn the money like cricket players without winning matches at international level.Hockey players expect respect like sachin tendulkar, yuvraj singh without performing in international level.
After one year again hockey player start begging in other format....because they are habituated to earn money without showing performance.

dear amarnaty - a typical biased n nonsense Indian.
Well if u know hw to read english than u might have understud wat coach Barsa has written. That half of the team is playing 1st time on International Level. So did Yuvi, dhoni etc scored 100 in their debut? Boss every game has to b given at par facilities. If u had seen yesterday match than Indian played good but as coach said they made sme real silly mistaked and for which they paid. Thats jst lack on international exposure. Hope this piece of msg strikes the right nerves of ur brain and all other Indian pals who expect an over-night change in hockey. Our players are no doubts talented spc Rajpal, Arjun hallapa , Prabhjot , Sandeep Singh.

This team is good. Need more attention to play as a formation as Australians did (they always had someone to take the pass). The motivation was high and Chandi to great hai.

state of hockey in india
by najam naqvi on Mar 05, 2010 12:08 PM  | Hide replies

what a shame? its the saddest day for indian hockey. the situation was never that bad, specially on home ground. even in the tenure of MR. KPS GILL, we had some glorious moments in world competetions and home ground we always played better then under the present setup. i still wonder why Honourable MS.Gill & Mr.S.Kalmadi had suspended the IHF headed by MR.KPS.Gill. Its hightime that the old guard is handed over the charge again to restore the lost glory before the Commanwealth Games. All hocket lovers, pls come forward to make sure that KPS.GILL is re-instated to the helm again.
