Referee

I agree that wrongly scored goals cannot be undone but wrong yellow and red cards definitely can be. Good actors like those from Ghana should also be penalized after the match by looking at the video evidence. FIFA should not wait for appeals from teams when they know for sure that something done by the referee is wrong. Football is a great game. Uncertainties in it make it more intersting and creates legendary rivalries...

REFEREE
by CHRISTOPHER JOSEPH on Jun 24, 2010 10:44 PM

Yes looking at the games one can say that the refereeing is poor However we need to understand the immense pressure the said guys are under. The hopes of a Nation are on them and wrong call can turn things around. The Referees are distributing yellow cards like World Cup Souvenirs on couple of occasions to the wrong player. The part of having a third empire is not something that will go well with the game. Football is a game where the players set the tempo unlike others where the tempo is set by the rules. Cricket for example you need to bowl a certain number of overs in a time frame. How the team does it is not a problem. Football on the other hand is a sport with plenty of movement on the field. The third eye will take the pep out of the game nevertheless the game will become boring. The remainder of the empires are not even required cause in the event of a doubt the referee can call for the guy with the controls. Technology is at it best and can capture anything event the speed of a bullet fired from a gun so that will not be a problem. The spontaneous acts of the game will be totally destroyed. Maradona's Hand Of God is a classic example of what a wrong decision costs a nation. However there are good times and bad for all players and that is what they need to take as part of the game. This is where a player will sure true Sportsmanship. After all this is what the game and world cup is all about - Bringing Nations together - Bridging the gap. Well done FIFA. Keep It Up.

New decsisons for better results

1.Two refrees like hockey.
2.No Offside rule, since objective of match is to score goals.
3.No Throw in.All Throw in must be changed to Kick in from the side line like corner kick.

The proposal is well
befitting to today's world football and justified when standard of judgment by world class refree are so poor
and questionable.

Hmm, your first and third suggestion is good. I don't agree to the second because of the chaos it may create in the goal area, teams will have two - three players permanently settled in opposition goal.

When some teams are resorting to off-side traps, the charm of the match is going, with out any goals.

Referee has only 1 line sight but viewers have 10s of cameras and tons of perceptions. Its easy to blame referee. He needs highest concentration level.

It is justified that Human error is always part of any game. But why
fifa is not introducing
fifth viedeo judgement like in the game of cricket for Hard/ difficult situation. They are Ultimately spoiling the game in the international arena being unjustified.

Poor referring in World Cup
by ARINDOM CHATTERJEE on Jun 24, 2010 01:44 PM

I would not blame the referee who has to cover so much ground across the length and breadth of the field to be near the spot , to be able to make a correct decision.
Wonder why football also cannot have two referees , one on each side of the pitch, just like they have in hockey. This would reduce the area to be covered by each referee and hopefully result in better decisions.
Food for thought for FIFA.

Refreeing in World Cup
by cccc dddd on Jun 24, 2010 01:43 PM

Claude has pointed out the obvious but the obstinacy of Blatter and above all Platini is what is preventing this issue to get addressed. Both are categorical that the free flow of the game will be impeded if on the field refree decisions are referred to TV refree for scrutiny. But when howlers are committed especially with the active deceit of players, it will be impossible for refrees to arrive at right decisions all the time. My friends and I have discussed this from all points of view and we are of the opinion that all vital decisions which affect the result of the game like goals, red card, penalty kicks need TV refree scrutiny. In any case, the game comes to a halt at these situations and the fluency of the game will anyway not be hampered.

Yesterday the match between England and Slovenia, Roony was way Off side and the referee had ignored it. Rooney's bad form denied him the goal then. It was surprising to see the referee didn't call this as off side.
