All for football Football for all
by Prasad Damodaran on Jun 17, 2010 12:48 PM  | Hide replies

India can be a world class team only in cricket for 2 reasons :- 1. Cricket does not need much of physical effort and 2. Cricket is not played seriously in more than 15 countries.

Soccer is a physical game. You need to stand shoulder to shoulder and run hard (except for the goalkeeper, perhaps) all through the 45 minutes of 2 sessions each. It is not like cricket where you take rest in standing positions most of the time.

You would notice that the moment dribbling skills was taken out of hockey with the arrival of astro-turf, India has tumbled the ranks in hockey. It is no more a skill game but one of power and stamina. We are not built for such games. No point in trying our hand at things where we cannot outshine others.

Just a stupid comment by Neeraj sharma.

Did not get his equation of 10 overs and 60 minutes????????? Did he try to tell that a bowler bowls 60 balls continously without any rest (becasue normally waht i have seen is these guys bowling just 6 balls an over and going and standing in the far corner of the ground either dreaming or biting their nails!!!)and they come back and bowl another over and finishes quota with good break in between!!!!

Accoridng to Mr. Sharma football does not need any reflexes!!!!! only cricket need it!!!!So according to him, Ronaldo is just running in the ground and just scoring without his so called performance or reflexes!!!!!!

God is very funny with some wonderful creations in the form of Neeraj Sharma

Arguably footbal cannot have reflexes. Only people have them. You surely don't follow football at all, defenders never have the luxury to "stand". There is something called "off the ball movement" in football, do some google search (at the least) before you post.

Neeraj, there are currently 7-8 players in international football who are able to run 100 mts in around 10 secs and about 70-80 players in the various Europoean Leagues who can run 100 mts in less than 11 secs. Soccer is regarded as one of the fittest sports in the world and certainly the most competitive with more than 200 countries playing it across different levels. Had soccer been a "bull fight" as you have suggested, it would not have been the world's no 1 sport for nearly a century now and by comparision Cricket seems to be more of a provincial (sub-continent) passion. Hope you get the point.

Another stupid cricket fan; tell your Tendulkar to kick the ball the whole year, still he wont be able to get a iota of swing in the ball. So much for talent....

Neeraj, something is seriously wrong with you otherwise you would not be making this silly comments. Messi. Beckham, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho make close to 40-45 million dollars a year. There are a handful of US sportsmen who make more money. Neither Sachin nor any of the cricketers figure in the list of the top 50 earners in sports. Please refrain from posting idiotic comments

Ronaldo's one year's salary is more than Sachin can make in his entire career. Leave apart the endorsements. His yearly salary is 13 million Euros.

So many foreign players playing
by Aditya on Jun 17, 2010 11:49 AM  | Hide replies

You see so many foreign and black players playing for various teams like England, France, Germany etc. but not a single player of Indian origin?? Is there not a single player of Indian origin who can play good football in England, Australia or any other team? I think its because they discriminate against Indians and donot want to give opportunities to Indians. But they do want Indian sponsors..look at Mahindra and Satyam logos at all matches..

Hmmmmm.... and you forgot to mention that not a single Indian has yet been named as the President of United States of America; nor has any Indian yet been "allowed" to hold the Wimbledon, US Open, Australian Open or French Open Cup high in victory; nor has any Indian been allowed to become Ralph Schumacher or Muhammed Ali....
When you had so many examples of discrimination to give, it is interesting why you chose only Football.... :)

BTW, we haven't seen a single American elected to the legislative assembly in either Madhya Pradesh or Karnataka ... not even Jammu & Kashmir..... Does it not mean that we Indians too are very good at the art of discrimination?
Your views? :)

talent to finish
by Shanthakumar HP on Jun 17, 2010 11:42 AM  | Hide replies

Thanks people for refreshing the memory line.. this was a neat one.

Guess yesterday spain was dominant in holding the ball, but somehow they lack the talent to finish. When they send the ball to goal, they looked like scared to hit it inside the goal!! That talent was glaring with Germans, where they'd scored 4 goals.

Even, Argentina, though with only one goal, they're good at punching the ball towards the goal. Messi was really mesmerising in this department..

Its not just only about talent.you need to have team coordination, spirit etc..Spain lacked accuracy last night an they were over confident. They were playing as if Goal will come their way.But Swiss was too not played well but they were lucky enough to win the match. So fa koreans have played good football and Argentina of course.Ivery cost,Holland,Praguye are notable countries in coming days.any one of them could be black horse in this worldcup..
