The Spanish Armada is a symbol of war. And the Vienna Protocol of Switzerland is a symbol of peace. With the defeat of Spain in the hand of Switzerland, the world has symbolically embraced peace and rejected the violence of war!

Are u not aware that in 1990 WC then defending champions Argentina lost 1st match ag Cameroon 1-0. But they scrapped past the same and reached the final only to lose to Germany. That team had the present Argentine coach, the great Diego Maradona as captain and a player at his peak then.

not every team is argentina and not everyone has maradona in their team. germany will win the world cup or argentina rest of them dont have any chance

Never write off Italy or Brazil, they have the in built mechanism to scale thr and out smart their opponents. Italy has won 4 titles and Brazil 5 times, they have natural ball players and a flair for putting up magical show.
Yet another defence oriented game, and the whole cup is like this.No action,no creativity, goals from tapins, keeper errors. I have been staying late the last week to watch, but now i wont. There were no takers for the football matches in my company cafeteria and they have now switched to Asia cup. Even the pubs in blore whicha re showing football have no takers, unlike what u see in UK. I see more action in 5 overs of RCB, than 90 mins of pointless passing football. 0-0 and 1-0 is not gonna draw fans and cricket will remain the religion here, whether for good or bad. If tams are scared of losing, then imagine how the knockout will be??

i think rediff moderators need to look at this "sandeep kumar" who such a pathetic loser he always comments on every other sport and compares it to cricket and says cricket is great if his cricket so great why does he comment on World cup soccer let him watch hsi money laundering tax evading IPL heroes who have forgotten to play for india

the point is not how many teams play the game. FYI More countries played Volleyball than soccer. The point is no other sport rewards defensive style as soccer. In every other sport, you have to be attacking or aggressive to be the best. Be it cricket (Aussies), tennis (Federer), basketball (LA Lakers) etc.

The scores do not tick fast as you see in Cricket, Basket Ball, Tennis etc....in fact you can't compare in that area....but Foot Ball is always skillful.
I am one of those who like to watch Test cricket than 5 overs of RCB and lottery like T20.
I don't think teams are scared of losing. Argentina, England and Germany all scored goals early in their matches. However, teams will strengthen their defense after scoring the first goal in order to prevent an equalizer from the opponent and having to score again in 90 minutes to win the match....that's always the nature of Foot Ball game.

any day cricket requires more skill than soccer, it is one of the reason it is played by only 10 countries. Football started as a game for commoners which relied on stamina rather than skill. Not judging a sport, just putting my opinion across.

I will add England and Netherlands too to that list of chokers in World Cup. These three teams lock horns with eachother for the title "the biggest choker in the world cup."

Spain are the true Chokers, whereas England is what it always is - CRAP. Overhyped teams are never chokers.
