Total goals scored by the spanish heroes from Barca - zero.

Rooney - zero
Messi - zero
Drogba(admittedly hurt) - zero
Cristiano Ronaldo - zero

The world cup is a different level and people like the Del Piero's regularly get exposed here. It is HARD to score goals in the highest level - International world cup soccer.

I have got a lot of abuse on rediff by defenders of club soccer. However on the BBC notice boards etc they readily admit that at this the highest level of soccer the likes of Rooney and Heskey do get exposed. National pride is on the line here and the defenses clog the midfield not allowing spaces like the showboating club soccer scene.

who said WC is the highest level. Any day Champions league is more competitive than WC where Asians and Africans only get entry bcoz of quota system. As for Rooney, he has scored almost 10 goals during qualifying campaign. How did you arrive at comparing Heskey and Rooney, I would never know.

Qualifying is one thing - the WC is another. Your Champions league champions will get chewed out and spit out by top WC teams like Brazil or German teams of past. Many Brazilian stars like Bebeto in 1994 don't even play in Europe. Plus when the whole team plays one style it is devastating instead of the individual showboating club leagues.

You haven't seen anything yet - wait till the knockout stage starts and the teams start playing Cateneccio like defense.

Those are same people who enjoy IPL and keeps silence when BCCI hurts our national pride by declaring that it would not send to men/women cricket team to Asian games..our club level cricketers are not protesting, they are happy with cash, gold medal can be given in platter to srilanka/pakistan..

This has got to be the shocker of the tournament so far. Spain hailed as one of the favs losing their 1st game.

The problem is that Spain along with England and France are always hailed as one of the favs to win the WC previous incl, but they often end up losing

If Swiss and Spain win all their matches, Spain might run into Brazil in the next round.
