The former english Forward Gary Linekar said " Foot ball is a funny game..for the entire 90 minutes 22 players chase a single ball and in the end the Germans win"

With no super stars Germany has finished Austarlia..and may well go on to lift the cup eventually.

HIGH SPIRIT AMPLIFIED in CORRECT DIRECTION
by appalla shankar on Jun 14, 2010 10:17 AM

The team spirit and the inherent motivation of players made the show lively. Team worked well with Mexico but technics failed as they were not making it into the post. Else all other games were relatively bore. Many a times it looked like a practise match in other cases. whereas in this case real world cup spirit is well revealed.

Is football so boring?
by mac talks on Jun 14, 2010 09:59 AM  | Hide replies

Little history before I go to the main topic.
I was a football fan before I left India 5 years ago.
Like any other Desi, I felt that American sports like American football, Hockey (Ice Hockey), basketball were all Idiotic sports.. I hated them a lot..
But things changed.. The more I follow them, the more I started liking them.. They are very very very exciting games to watch. If you manage to keep the Indian prejudices out of your head, you will really enjoy these games..
I still watch and love T20 cricket..

Coming to Soccer (Football) world cup,
Oh My God.. I was bored to death watching these games on TV..
Is it me? Or has this sport lost its charm?
What is going on with this world-famous sport?????

mac, nothing wrong about that, but India is not playing in this WC2010.
So better stick to following the teams which are playing here.
This WC seems to be one for the dark horses.
No clear favourites, no big guns firing so far.
But hang on, the talented players will raise their game as the tournament progresses.
When the going will get tough, the tough will also get going.
So wait and watch for the beautiful game to evolve in this WC 2010.
It's too early yet ....

:) .. What a wonderful discovery... When did you see them winning a FIFA world cup last? :)

But if you are trying to gain some vicarious pleasure by imagining that we were playing against the Aussies in the FIFA world cup, that dream must unfortunately be prolonged for a very very long time, I'm afraid... :)

thats not the reason. I did about 20 Laps of swimming on Sunday and heavy bench press and weightlifting on Saturday. Usually Monday gets tiring for me due to this. But i will just do 30 Min cardio today to ease off.

it is not athelticsm of germans but oneness that makes them tough....in inda selection criteria is goes like this.....
> First the team should comprise of a muzziee...
then some christy...
then some sikh,...
then few low caste h1 ndus....(these lot probably do not want to be called as low caste but then it is forced on them),
then somme simple h1 ndus who should not be proud of being h1n dus,
then some from north,
some from east, west & south

> After this main criteria they would go for politicians lot.....where lot of horse trading will happen....

> then at last comes unimportant things like CALIBRE, TALENT, EXCELLENCE...etc

So when such team goes on the field they already are quarrelling amoung themselves since everybody knows how they have made it into the team.....

AND THEN FOOLISH INDIANS EXPECT THIS TEAM TO WIN AND BRING THEM PRIDE

in retrospect
by Debo Mcnair on Jun 14, 2010 08:36 AM  | Hide replies

I watched this game and was really impressed by the Germans - the tournament team. Always under rated but never fails to rise to the occasion. Precise well-oiled football machine. Beautiful game and goals today!

But us Indians overjoying the Aussie debacle is what worries me. Guys, we didn't qualify. We'll lose by the same margin to this Aussie team that we laugh at.

Germany is the team I root for in the absence of India. But even they have lost bad at times. I don't like Aussie politics at times, but they have achieved so much in many sports. Lets not get carried away by the recent incidents against Indians and generalize Aussie sports. Lets talk after we are their equals in the same field.

Moral: Never mix sports with politics
