more glamour less action
by aman bharadwaj on Jul 12, 2010 11:39 PM

this world cup hasnt been as interesting as the last 1 & even lesser than the euro2008(remember turkey).spain won by their passing prowess which sometimes is sonorific.personally,i like a goal when it is scored by a player after he has foxed 3,4 defenders or by a scorpion, bicycle or reverse kick.but we dont get 2 see such individual brilliance, nowadays.

ironically the "UNBRANDED" matches like the urugvs ghanna & urug vs germany were truly riveting.hope that the fervour created by this wc takes some time 2 die before it is gulped up by cricket again.

Well, wasn't the goal a bit suspect? It appeared to be off-side.

Whatever it is, fact remains that Spain was the better team, complete in all areas. Holland team surprisingly played rough football, so unlike their nature. The only feeling is that i feel sorry for Holland team as they lost their 3rd finals.

'Victory' of 'SPAIN' has a message.

If 'I' don't do 'JUSTICE' within, how can we 'JUDGE'.

My personal assurance as 'P...' call it person or president or prime minister or P ....... or the 'POWER of UNIVERSE'.

'Dalai Lama' his culture and faith and ...... food,....and the people of that land will get there lost land in my time by (obama) a name to identify with POWER.

The 'Dragon chinese or maoist loot pilo or any challenge? THE ENTIRE 'DEMOCRATIC WORLD' will unite mean America, Europe, to .....

So 'TIBET' will get a place, what ever is the challenge.

100% SURE.

It was definitely one of the roughest finals every played, a sad end to what was a truly wonderful tournament hosted by South Africa.

True. Uruguay is the only team to actually come out on tops. Miserable final.

I have been watching World cup matches since 1978 on TV live, (starting in the Middle East) later in India, and the last nights final was one of the most boring one, so much so, I switched off the TV at full time. So many yellow cards and the referee was too much for yellow and nothing for the red and he spoiled the game might be he had to appease the FIFA.

JIMMY ... 1990 FINAL WAS WORST IN THE WORLD ...SAME AS 1994 .... 1998 WAS OK ...2002 GOOD ... 2006 PATHETIC ..2008 IS ALSO PATHETIC ...OVERALL ALMOST ALL WORLD CUP FINALS ARE LIKE THIS ONLY ...DUE TO VERY HIGH PRESSURE AND VERY HIGH PRIDE AT STAKE ....

Best were 1982 and 1986 finals, especially 1986, when Diego Maradona was at his peak. He sent that beautiful pass that gave Aregentina their 3rd goal and a goal more than Germans.

I 100% agree with you Jimmy, this was no way near to what earlier matches had been, two mediocre teams spoiled the whold charm of suc a huge final.

When was the last time a soccer final was interesting? starting from 1990 almost every final was a boring affair - 1990, 94, 2006 and 2010 - all were too boring. Soccer should change its name from beautiful game to boring game.

The last time the soccer final was interesting was when Argentina was playing against Germany. Maradona was in full flow, the match was worth watching, the goal scored by Maradona was really worth it and also his pass to his team mate.

It is always the case. Finals are generally unruly. That is because even if you get 2 yellow cards, it does not matter(as per rules, you dont get to play the next match .. which is fine since you are already playing the finals anyway :) ).
As long as players dont get a red card, it is fine. Unfortunately, Netherlands got a red card yesterday.

Jimmy,

Maradona did not score a goal in the final. He did, however, make that wonderful pass for Burruchaga that led to the winning goal.
