probably because4 Fernando Torres was not in form and missed quite a few...spain didn't play as bad as as number of goals suggest..specially in pathches they played quite well.... However the kind of team spain has they could have played more openly...long years of under achievement might have tied them down to be over-cautious.

Scratchy win again
by Janarddan on Jul 12, 2010 12:47 PM  | Hide replies

Spain managed a scratchy win again - Just imagine, their past 4 games they won on 1-0 margin.

vs Portugal 1-0
vs Paraguay 1-0
vs Germany 1-0
vs Netherlands 1-0

They are scratchy, not a dominant team. Reminds one of boring French and Italian teams. If Germany had one experienced midfielder in their ranks they would have thrashed this Spain 6-0.

vs Portugal 1-0
vs Paraguay 1-0
vs Germany 1-0
vs Netherlands 1-0

Buddy wizardo,

Now you understand why SOuth Asians do not figure in world cup soccer.

It is a sheer waste of energy explaining to this kind of people how difficult and talent that is required not to concede a goal.

SOuth Asians want everything big; that is why IPL is a great success; big sixes just like Russian torment of a chained bear

Not a big talent is needed. Adopt the strategy of Spain. Just keep passing ball to each other. Do not attack till dying stage of game. In this game, the goal Spain scored was a lucky one. Dutch failed to clear the ball.

What a boring game!
by nisha thoas on Jul 12, 2010 12:40 PM  | Hide replies

I watched the entire 130 odd mins, and in the middle just felt like walking off.And it was not the first time in the world cup. The 3rd place match and maybe a couple of others were entertaining. The rest were all filled with negative tactics, and diving, and fouls. 14 cards during a world cup final..its unbelievable. In fact, i get much more excitement watching 5 mins of IPL cricket, which is followed by millions more in India. THis sort of negativity will drive away the few 1000 indian followers.

when two very exciting teams play with same flair, same intensity and passion, it would be difficult to see more goals in the kitty. The good thing is the team that held the nerves with disciplined on-field behaviour has won. The Holland team played a physical game & lost its mental aggression which Spain exploited to its strength.

Pity on you!

A world cup in its truest sense is only soccer, for sheer athleticism skill and a gripping one and a half to two hours given the extra time.

If one loves IPL over worldcup soccer what else one can say?

To me IPL is like the old Russian game of chaining a bear and pierce it with spike and get bitten by dogs.

Here in IPL, the bowlers are chained like bears and the batsmen like the Russian heroes and dogs pierce them by hitting sixes!

LOL!

In cricket, attack is the best form of defense. whereas in football, a team with good defense can have the final say. In 2006, Italy did that and now Spain.

Sorry Deepa!

I am not a misogynist but it is women who are responsible for the decline of of cricket.

Show this kind of bravado that attack is the best form of defense in English conditions when you play test cricket and you get all out before you score 42.

Attack is the best form of defense is like going all the team including the defenders donning the roles of forwards and attack the opposite goal; you do it in soccer or hockey you will be thumped by goals by the opposite team pumping goal after goal when the defenders disappear and score line reads like volleyball game.

For Gods sake and crickets sake let the women out of it.

From World cup one should also look at the visionary, Mr Hirani.

"Andre Istavan" who scored the final goal is an imaginary charector derived in this film who is shown as a wild life photographer in Hugary.

This is one great coincidence.

in 2006 italy concended only 2 goals and that too was not field goals.. One was penalty and other a self goal by De Rossi... Italy defence was terrific then and they won mainly with their midfield and defence which in football is a rare case

It is always nice to remember that a team with good defense apart from a good striker will always win. Spain now.. and Italy four years back...

Argentina with a dominant Messi could not make it because of a weak defense...

The quality of a game is determined not by amount of goals hit but by the way the teams play. Portugal's 7-0 is an onesided affair with no fighting displays showed by Spain and Dutch. Spain's ball control is pleasing to watch not to forget the immaculate passes....!

Spain scored its goals through field goals in their alloted play time...regular or over time and not through penalties.

Spain is the best team in the world cup with their artistic and passing game and the deserved winners.
