because he is not a slave of india. where he has to take permission from it for every thing. he is a free man, free ot choose his state of living. india should be proud to have him. and by calling sport useless you showed your pathetic state of mind too. i guess for you art, music, films everything is useless except runnin gup and down parliament rows shouting over whether temple to be made or mosque.

LOL..so what luxury did the country give him for chess. What luxuries is India providing to the hundreds of kids interested in playing chess. Yes once one of those kids become 'V Anand' in the future, hundreds of people will post lies that the country provided them with luxuries.
LOL...you want to know luxury provided by teh country for sports? That is what the country has provided Kalmadi to loot in the name of sports. All the luxury looted by Kalmadi and party, and now they have demanded the army to work for free to complete the project on time.

dear Sir, Please understand... Chess needs lots of practice, and for each tournament, lotof preparation along with seconds, assts, & coaches .. is undertaken. Spain (& Europian countries have maximum tournaments conducted each year, & participation in these is a must for increasin one's ELO rating. Chess is King of Games, & Anand is India's greatest champion. For all the pratcie one needs to do for each game, one needs to reside there in Europe (spain) & citizenship is required for the same. Hence the dual citizen ship. There is no loyalty issue, as Anand always played under Indian Flag. Please do not say words like Shame for Anand.

Most of the people that bad-mouth Sachin and Anand belong to the second category. We have quite a few of those in the bureaucracy. They are just showing their colours. Next time some one questions why India does not produce world class athletes, remember this. What is the point, if they are treated like this? All this nonsense for a stupid doctorate? I am surprised he even said he will accept this idiotic honor. He is going to beat 40 mathematicians (probably PhD's) simultaneously. In my opinion, this honor is way below Vishy, just like his nationality.
