India making it to Davis Cup World Group is really something to cheer about. But it is not quite correct to give all the credit to Somdev (but I like the boy!) as the title of this news story does. Somdev alone did not lead India into the World Group -- remember Bopanna had defeated De Voest in the first rubber.

our selectors are jokers,
calliberous players are debarred in every field,
its only those who have links can come

yes this is great. but without support and competition in India, he will phase out. to get to the top level (like Fed), you need a lot of professional support. he has a lot of talent no doubt.

problem is we dont have a concept of athletics in India such as at college/school level neither do we have professional sports recognition.. so there is no way he can keep up. He will end up moving to an international country but still playng for india.

kudos to him!!

politics and caste system have stopped many youngsters and good players to come at international level
