-he world and not a 3rd world poor sport like cricket
hewitt has been ranked world no 1 for 80 weeks, which is 2nd only to fedex in this gen
his career in this gen has been 2nd only to rafa and fedex with a wimbledon win and a us open win and two masters cups(would have won more of them had he been not missing so many of them by not playing coz of pulling out)
hes had breathing probs, is a little guy but has achieved more than his ability
i dont read posts i dont reply to

if equality is what women want, then they should play 5 sets
by wizardo id on Jun 24, 2009 06:02 PM  | Hide replies

if there's a need to be equal, then 5 sets must be the standard. i agree with hewitt. or else, men will feel rather left out - they'd have slogged their way through - most of the times playing hours at end. men's tennis has provided some of the most intense tennis battles ever. the competition has been iconic many a times

equal pay for equal work shud be the order of the day.
If women demand equal amount of prize money obviously they also shud be made to play 5 SETs r else this wil b inequality for MEN FOLKS, hence its not worthy asking for equal amount unless until they also play 5 setters like mens tennis

5 Sets in Tennis for women
by arun malankar on Jun 24, 2009 05:17 PM

Apart from Lawn Tennis, in atheletics, women refuse to run full marathon (26 miles); instead they always opt for half marathon (13 miles), but at the same time want the same prize money as given to the male winner of the full marathon.

Monica Seles was able to
by Friend on Jun 24, 2009 04:11 PM  | Hide replies

Before Monica Seles was stabbed (by Steffi Graf's fan), she was able to play best of five sets and win too....She played Year Ending Masters Championship in 1990 as a 16 year old..She played high intensity , 5 set match against Sabatini and won, despite being 2-1 sets down. In 1991, and 1992, she won in 3 straight sets. The 3 time defending champion was not allowed to play in 1993 because of the stabbing. After that, it was downhill for her...
But yes, Seles-Graf, Seles-Sabatini, Graf-Sabatini,Navratilova-Chris drew BIG BIG AUDIENCE.

People are suggesting that women should play against men in tennis?? Most Women don't agree to play men even in Chess where physical strength is least required.

Otherwise we will see woman like Serena and Venus will dominate the women circuit. It's not good for women circuit. 3 sets are enough.

LET THERE BE ...........
by nt g on Jun 24, 2009 01:36 PM  | Hide replies

If women feel they are equal to men in every aspect then let there be COMMON TITLE AND FIELD OF 256 PLAYERS, instead of 128 on men and women's side.women should NOT get equal pay for Grand slams.
women won't last for 5 sets.

prize money is dependent on how much audience you can attract. Both men and women attract about the same audience i think...

Its like saying that a test player should be paid more than a 20-20 player, when infact there is a greater audince and money for a 20-20 game.

nobody is really bothered to know who wins or losses in womens. but the world stopped when fed plays nadal or when nadal lost the french open or when fed was playing the semi and finals. USE UR LOGIC BEFORE COMMENTING

"Both men and women attract about the same audience i think..." - that might be true before Graff, Navratilova retired but the argument no longer holds good now. Do you really beleive that a Dinara Safina vs Ana Ivanovic match would generate the same interest as a Nadal vs Federer or even a Nadal vs Djokovic match ?

Even if women attract the same amount of eyeballs, for parity, we shud be comparing audience multiplied by time spent on court, meaning even then a 5 setter is required....Women are in the sport only to feed into the male testosterone....they neither have similar skill level nor stamina to last..but they do have more glamor..but all is lost when they freaking grunt like Michael Stich pointed out...A grunting Maria (on court) is the most unsexy sporting sight ever..
