LET THERE BE ...........
by nt g on Jun 24, 2009 01:36 PM  | Hide replies

If women feel they are equal to men in every aspect then let there be COMMON TITLE AND FIELD OF 256 PLAYERS, instead of 128 on men and women's side.women should NOT get equal pay for Grand slams.
women won't last for 5 sets.

prize money is dependent on how much audience you can attract. Both men and women attract about the same audience i think...

Its like saying that a test player should be paid more than a 20-20 player, when infact there is a greater audince and money for a 20-20 game.

nobody is really bothered to know who wins or losses in womens. but the world stopped when fed plays nadal or when nadal lost the french open or when fed was playing the semi and finals. USE UR LOGIC BEFORE COMMENTING

"Both men and women attract about the same audience i think..." - that might be true before Graff, Navratilova retired but the argument no longer holds good now. Do you really beleive that a Dinara Safina vs Ana Ivanovic match would generate the same interest as a Nadal vs Federer or even a Nadal vs Djokovic match ?

Even if women attract the same amount of eyeballs, for parity, we shud be comparing audience multiplied by time spent on court, meaning even then a 5 setter is required....Women are in the sport only to feed into the male testosterone....they neither have similar skill level nor stamina to last..but they do have more glamor..but all is lost when they freaking grunt like Michael Stich pointed out...A grunting Maria (on court) is the most unsexy sporting sight ever..

discrimination in favour of women
by WINSTON NORONHA on Jun 24, 2009 12:56 PM

It is surprising that in this age of equal pay for equal work, women are paid same amount for doing less. They play 3 set matches, most of them not worth watching expending less effort and spending less time on court. There have been very few classic matches after Graf and Navratilova. Further there is the dubious distinction of the Number ones not having won a single Grand Slam

tthen there shouldn't even be men's n women's finals.. only a single competition.. like
may the best man or woman win..
equal prize money does not mean equality in everything else..
then if a guy wins in 3 sets.. he should get less prize money.. n more for 5 set win..

simple economics, women are paid high only on the ramp because men and women both watch, read fashion stuff. on the other hand men earn less than their women counterparts on the ramp, coz only women watch them (and some guys ofcourse). that decides the prize money etc.

Women wouldn't last five sets, says Hewitt

Women players need to play 5 sets, since women tennis players of today are more muscular and powerful, taller than earlier ones.
I feel that it is time, they charge equal money like the mens so they should perform in the same way.

Don't take offence kamini, women players been geting the same prize moneys since 2007. And yes, few women "may" last 5 sets but many can't, that's what Hewitt said. Most of them look exhausted by the 3rd set itself and that's why you see those 6-0, 6-1 figures for the 3rd set often. So nothing to feel let down for women here. The current state is just fine for all.

Dear Kamini,
(I think you better spell your name as KAAMINI -with that extra 'A'- to avoid mispronunciation by many foreigners whom I had heard pronouncing as KAMEENI)

I dont think 5 sets for women is a good idea. Perhaps, in Wimbledon grass which is primarily serve and volley type, and with cool English temperatures it may not test womens endurance. But in hot climates like Australia and on surfaces like clay where you see long rallies, women get exhausted.

Whether muscular or taller every woman goes through mensturation which results in loss of blood. That is why the general expected levels of haemoglobin in blood varies from men to women. To put simply, when your haemoglobin levels in blood are lower you can not have endurance. Endurance is different from being tall or muscular.

Besides, if pushed to the wall like playing 5 sets there may be harmonal imbalance in women. Extra hardwork produces more Androgen and the Estrogen levels get reduced. To put simply, their feminity gets affected.

In sports like Badminton or Table Tennis perhaps it is all right but in stressful sports like Tennis, I wonder forcing women to play 5 sets for the sake of money is cruel.

One must remember, that not all women players are that muscular. In such scenario, the one who is more physically fit than having expertise in the sport will win even against a skillful opponent as that opponent can not last playing the fourth set in searing Australian heat of 40 degree celsius.

If we go by your logic, there should be no discinction of men and women. All are tennis players and even a woman can play against a man in the finals. when women are claiming to be equal to men in all spheres, why play separately. It is anyway not a contact game (like wrestling) where they may have objection.
