Paes has proved that he has still lot of fire left in him. It is very unfortunate that he and Bhupathi parted ways; otherwise they would have been proud of many more titles!

despite all his feats in winning doubles titles(mens&mixed)so long as one does not win a singles title in grand slam or ATP tournaments you are not heralded as a great tennis player.a vijay amrithraj or ramanathan krishnan would always be placed higher than a paes in the list of indian tennis players as the former two have won some prestigous men's singles tournaments in their era.anyway keep it up you ageless wonder.

FYI..Paes has won one ATP title in single- Pilot Pen in '98. Also, Amritraj and Krishnan played in an era where tennis wasn't so physical- it was more delicate and better suited for Indians with supple wrists.

but cricket will overshadow his achievement.

we indians are heavily biased persons & this biasness has impaired our vision of judgement.

PEERLESS LEANDER PAES MADE INDIA PROUD AT FRENCH OPEN
by jamsheed abumohammed on Jun 07, 2009 12:51 PM  | Hide replies

I have nothing but admiration to the great genius of tennis, our own Leander Paes, when he won his 9th Grandslam Title in Paris. This age-less Kohinoor Diamond of Indian Tennis, refused to grow old and continue to play tennis even at the age of 35. Defying his age, this great gentleman of Tennis from India not only outclassed the giant-killer SA-Belgium team, but also tamed them by making a great recovery from one set down. What can I say to this greatest player who was not only down with a set but also got injured when he was hit on the eye. He did not lose heart, he went out, nursed his wounds and came back to play a tennis of the century to outclass Moodie and Dick in the company of Dlouhy, who was equally upto the task. I am really in awe of this Indo-Czech pair who deserved the win more than anybody on Saturday. It may be recalled that Paes has won this grandslam title after a gap of three years, when he last won US Open in 2006 pairing with German Damm. This win would also boost further his morale to carry on the winning streak to Wimbledon which is round the corner. We Indians are fond of our cricketers but give no such importance to such greats like Paes and Bhupathi. It is our duty to show them the same love and affection as we show to our cricketers. We wish that when he returns to India after winning the Wimbledon, he would be given a rousing reception by the people at the airport.Govt should also recognize this rare talent by giving his highest awart Bharat Ratna.
