Indians enter in junior Grand slams when the europeans and americans of same age are already playing in senior slams and winning..so its not a big deal..leander and mahesh have also won junior titles but they were never able to win on seniro circuit in singles..may be yuki will also become a good doubles player..any way..congrats yuki..but instead of playing for money and entring in doubles (like sania and mahesh etc etc etc)concentrate on singles and try to bring laurels to the country..may be you end up with less money than in doubles..

MB has never won any junior singles titles. Paes has won 2 junior Grand Slam.

The fact that a indian player has won junior grand slam after 18 years should be viewed positively and not be belittled. Even though Paes did not have great singles career, he had a successful career in doubles, davis cup and olympics singles bronze medal in 1996.

Bhambri is just 16. That is too early for Men's Tennis. It would be better if he plays in junior level for another year and hone his game plus develop physical strength and stamina to compete in senior level. Fact that bolliteri is involved would be helpful.

I am hoping he has the temperment and attitude to have a successful career.

Congratulations to bhambri for wining the junior aus open title, it's great achievement, and i hope he will continue to add feathers in his cap, but there should be a caution movement from media side (which is rarely so) no to crush him under expectations, he has miles to go and it's really a beginning, specially the national identity tag, let him hone himself as an individual not a country, let him achieve the zenith.

Bhambri wins junior title..

Congrats Bhambri!!
But, this does not mean anything to Indian tennis as all Indian sportsmen win in some junior tournaments only to become sitting ducks in the Pro tour. They dont seem to have the drive, motivation and ability to compete at that level..
Also, tennis is not a game for the masses here and hence, there is no critical mass for development.

hence, no need to make too much Hungama about one small vistory

it is a great achievment to win a grandslam final singles by an indian, after Leander Paes won US open juniors final no indian won grandslam singles for a long time. wishing Yuki all the best and requesting government to give full support to him in terms of financial and other kinds of support.

Best performance by India in recent times
by Mathews George on Jan 31, 2009 02:36 PM

Indian sportmen are showing some good spirit in recent times. Abhinav Bindra, Vishwanathan Anand, Indian Cricket Team in all formats, Junior Hockey team, Boxers, Tennis stars in Australian Open etc are best example. Well done young ones. WE are proud of you...
