I don't think even one per cent people of India knows him. Wining in double is of no mean. In tennis only the individual winners are Heroes. They got the maximum coverage in media, whereas double/mix double winners got only a small place that too only for information. I don't mean that this is worthless, but it is true and I wish if any Indian could win a grant slam one day

Deepak..wish the 'D' on you keyboard was near to the 'T'..that would have given benefit of doubt for misspelling..You cannot even spell grand slam correctly and are barking aloud on tennis feats. What do you mean by doubles has no meaning?? In olympics the singles and doubles winner get 'ONE' gold medal as equals.. Don't measure any sports event by the money flow. Doubles may be lowly ranked in terms of money and publicity.. but then so is chess. Does that make Vishwanathan Anand a loser??

Be realistic. what I said it has some meaning. how many tennis players gives importance to olympic games? They least bother for it. Check it, if how many top tennis players took participate in Beijing Olympic held recently. I never see names of double winner of grand slam in any general knowledge book.

i thinkg Rafal & ROger both played in doubles event in beijing. No?
congrats to mahesh & his partner for reaching the finals of mens doubles. however the joy would have been more had paes partnered mahesh. paes & partner will play their semi-finals later, hope they too can be succesful.it is still not understood why both paes & mahesh left playing singles for the last 8-9 years, & concentrated only on doubles. today they are 35 years, 8 years earlier they were 27, an age which cannot be said to be old in tennis, as examples of federer 28, venus 27,hewitt 27 show. even if you win in doubles you do not get the accolades of a singles winner.even the prize money is 15-20% of the singles winner's purse.even today paes & mahesh can win singles matches against most of the new indian crop of players.

Do not mix up patriotism with sports. Sports has no religion, no language, no jingoism. It is a game of merit, and all world citizens can participate. First be a world citizen, then be an Indian. After being an Indian, be a Maharastrian, Bihari, Bengali, Tamilian etc..

If we do not have national spirit then there is no value for success of any player to any one. His success will be limited to himself only. Why people will cheer for him. I am not a fundementalist, but this is true.

agreed, if bhupathi was not indian, why would we care. nobody would know him. as world citizens, we do cheer for likes of federer, nadal etc not for someone like bhupathi whose only reason for being featured here is that he is an indian
If Paes/Lucas pair wins.. Well we will have an embarassing situation-- Peas Vs Bhupathi. An all Indian affair will be interesting to watch. But am afraid its lest gonna happen. To beat Bryan brothers Paes/Lucas will have to plat their hearts out.
If Leander/Lukas pair wins.. well it can be Leander Vs Mahesh duel. But am afraid that is lest gonna happen. The Bryan brothers are a tough nut to crack.
Bhupati facing paes in finals what a embarassing situation it would be for them, while both were on one side the last time in finals, now they will face each other if paes & co make it to finals.

Bhupathi is going to win both doubles and misxed doubles. He had a great tennis chemistry with both the partners-Mark and Sania. Both Indians seems to be very much on the target.
