Its over
by bob dsouza on Apr 18, 2009 03:15 PM  | Hide replies

Federer has played exceptionally well in the past and could have quite comforatably sitting on atleast 2-3 more slams had he not been so obsessed of overtaking Sampras and having the tag of the best ever player.Truly extremely difficult now to win this year except maybe Wimbledon where he will have to be at the top of his game.Dont want to put him down but if he were competing in the era of Becker,Edberg,Sampras and Agassi I dont think he would have enjoyed the kind of success he has had.Sampras got his 13 slams against these superstars and had he not quit could hav atleast taken a couple more atleast.Fact of the matter is that barring Nadal and to a little extent Djokovic none of the guys in the current curcuit are to the level of that era

Getting tougher for Roger!
by shiva on Apr 18, 2009 07:17 AM  | Hide replies

Federer is not facing armageddon! There are new pretenders to the throne, yes! Now close friend & fellow countryman, you too Brutus!

Federer is still a class act! Nadal is like a Spanish Bull, Murray & Joker are snapping at his heels! The fear factor is gone! But to write off Roger is just not on. Class is permanent, form is temporary!

Roger is still needed for his class act, even below others! He can be the best despite the rankings. He has to take it easy for a while & bide his time! Agassi came back after set-backs, so can Roger!

by bhanoo sharma on Apr 17, 2009 06:39 PM

I think roger should temp retire or take a break because he is out of touch.
get a coach for some time brush up his skills and fitness.
i beleive he is excited about the 1 st new arrival in his family & many congratulations to him, but its disappionting to see him loose & that also in initial stages of a championship.

Only Federer is to be blamed
by naveen dogra on Apr 17, 2009 03:24 PM  | Hide replies

i don't think that others are outplaying federer.. it's just that he is not playing even 50% of what he actually is able to (even at this stage).. so many unforced errors.. i truely believe that only nadal and murry at the moment have capability to defeat him .. other players have known that they don't need to do anything special to beat him .. all they have to do is to try to keep the ball inside the court and rest federer himself will do by making an unforced error .. his forehand is betraying him continously .. his backhand is not friendly either with him... it makes me wonder why the hell he is not able to make the ball cross the net and fall inside the opponent's side of court.. only he is to be blamed .. with each and every defeat the pressure is building. he definitely needs to do something regarding his game very fast, otherwise i think he himself will not be in a position to hear the news of a 13 times grand slam champion being defeated by each tom, dick and harry of the tennis in every tourament he participates..

my best wishes with federer.

Keep the faith. As you rightly said, Wimbledom '08 and Aus Open '09 were bad matches from Federer's perspective. Fair play and full marks to Nadal for beating him, but it cannot be disputed that Federer had a horrible game too. I mean.. what the hell was the aus open 5th set?

I for one believe he is more than capable of sorting out his game and coming back to being the best again. I mean, he's Roger Federer!

Federer will never be able to come back as strong as he was before. He had lost mentally to a stronger Nadal.

Yes. Nadal was mentally tougher, but my point is who is to say Federer can't figure it out and overcome his bizzare mental block against Nadal. It's strange enough as it is seeing his normally impeccable game come to naught against Nadal. And no, and it's not just because "nadal hits with spin lolz".

I for one expect Federer to make a major comeback in his career. He's only 27 and extremely fit. Agassi won a slam in 2003 man (he was 33 then)! And he continued to win titles till 2005 (reached US open final).

I just don't get why suddenly it's all doom and gloom for Roger!

What the hell is your malfunction? It's not as if he's dropped out of the top 100 is it?

I like Rafa as much as the next guy, but when I hear calls for Federer's head just because he loses some matches, it makes me want to wring necks. Starting with yours.

The man is number two in the world for heaven's sake. Have you even seen him play?
