What the hell is your malfunction? It's not as if he's dropped out of the top 100 is it?

I like Rafa as much as the next guy, but when I hear calls for Federer's head just because he loses some matches, it makes me want to wring necks. Starting with yours.

The man is number two in the world for heaven's sake. Have you even seen him play?

Fedex is Lucky of not playing in 90's
by mihir acharya on Apr 17, 2009 11:17 AM  | Hide replies

Federer won soo many grand slams at 1 go was mainly because he never faced serious competition. Now there are many good players coming up the rank and its becoming difficult for federer to compete against them, had Federer came up in 90's then he would have hardly won Grand Slams, He's lucky that he's in this era.

My dear achar ,look around the world(i hope u understand).compitition is only increasing, players are coming up with better facilities, where u saw players from serbia on those days? You are forgetting that asa rookie(without any slam experience)he beat ur sampras in fourth round. So stop blabaring about compitition, and realise that u dominate only when u are much above your opponent not that your opponent is much below u.And if u still dont get it then i think nadals exit in hands of soderling should teach u a imp. lesson?

Even Nadal count not beat Federer in the earlier part of his career. Nadal managed to start beating Federer only when Federer got older.

Federer is 27 years old,soo he cant be considered Old, 2ndly Nadal used to always beat him on Clay and Federer on Grass & Hard, But Nadal beat him many times on hard and grass as well. soo age shouldnt be considered as both the players are young

Edberg and becker were at the end of their careers when sampras took over.

The rest courier/chang/ivanisevic are simply not in the same league, so no point in talking about them.

sampras had one great rival and that was agassi.

And, Federer has beaten nadal once on clay (the record is 9-1).

I never said Federer is a bad player or he doesn't know tennis, i jst put my point in simple words that when Federer played he didnt had competition like we had in 90s, Let's face it Tennis was far more attractive to watch in 90's than it is today. to prove my point all the player i mentioned, all have been a grand slam winners more than once in tht era, in this era except nadal and Federer how many players have won grandslam more than once

Acharya
your knowledge of tennis reaaly half baked and limited.
first of all federer is one of the greatest ever to pick the racket, if not the greatest. a man who wins 5 us opens in arow, is amazing isnt he?
secondly grass at wimbledon is not what it used to be. it plays like a mud court now. that is why nadal has been doing so well there.
have respect for a man who has 13 slams. and believe me he is not done yet. there might be 2-3 more in him.

Acharya,
Courier, Ivanisevic, Chang and Rafter cannot be considered to be in the same league as Sampras, Becker, Edberg, Federer and Nadal. And it is wrong to say there was no one to challenge Federer. The fact is that he was so good that others were pale in front of him. Even if one were to agree (only for argument sake) that Federer was not so great, to win so many grand slams with consistency is an achievement which deserves richest praises regardless of how the opposition was.

If you say Federer had no competition, the same can be said about Sampras when he was at peak. There was simply no one who could defeat him, not even Agassi! So, why do you not say that Sampras was lucky to play in the 90s?

Sharma,
If u think u know a lot about tennis then jst think of Fedex playing in the 90's, do you think wuld have won US open 5 times in a row, talking about court condition, fedex never defeted Nadal on Clay but Nadal defeted Federer on every court. If u talk about competition then think about pete Sampras in 90's. he had competition from greats like Aggasi, Becker, Edberg, Courier, Chang, Ivenisevic, Raftar, who all were capable of defeating each other on their day. but Fedex only had serious competition from Nadal. now wat u wanna say tennis gyani

i might not be gyani, but u are certainly agyani.
the players had competion with each other because they were of the same calibre. for eg becker and edberg, their capabilities were same.
federer is so beyond the capabilities of other players of his time that he makes them seem incapable. now do u get it?
secondly federer in his prime would have thrashed all of those players except sampras.
by the way my all time favourite player is boris becker for his charisma. federer is a distant second.

Sad to see Federer lose
by B M on Apr 17, 2009 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

The sun has to set at some point and that is what is happening to Federer. The truth is Federer is now a pale shadow of his old self. He was a great great champion and it is indeed sad to see him lose. The percentage of his loses has been steadily increasing over the past 2 years and it will not be realistic to expect him to turn the tide.

I am a big fan of Federer and it is sad to see the champion lose so frequently. I think the time has come for him to say good bye to professional tennis.

BM - What makes you think Federer cannot work on his errors and improve? Or is "improving his game" beyond achievement for a man who has won 13 grand slams?

You know the 13 slams weren't a fluke. He's rightly considered one of the best of all time. And he's still physically fit. Keep the faith. If laymen like you and me are ready with advice on "how to beat nadal" etc. he will be knowing a lot better.
