ROD LAVER
by truth and artifice on Sep 09, 2008 11:12 AM  | Hide replies

In an article in Tennis Week in 2007, the tennis historian Raymond Lee statistically analyzed the all-time best players. ROD LAVER topped his list ahead of Tilden and Borg (tied), Roger Federer, Gonzales, Rosewall, Budge, Ivan Lendl, Connors, Sampras, McEnroe, and Kramer. for starters, please look up Rod Laver on wikipedia, specially the section 'Place among the all-time great tennis players'

Rod Liver was great NO doubt, BUT watch
Laver playing on YOUTUBE and you will realise Roger is still great. Federer is Body lenght ahead of rest of the world. Rod Laver him self said two years back that he feels honoured when compare with Federer.....

Agreed . Rod Laver is the greatest ever. especially considering his two garand slams. The other important point is that between 1963 & 1967 he had to miss out on the slams as he turned professional and under the rules of those days, professionals couldn't play in the slams. These were his peak years ( born 1949, he was between 24 & 28 years in this period),so potentially he missed out on atleast 8- 10 slams ( of the 20 slam tournaments played in those years).

The king returns! Allez Roger!

What a great display of tennis! Poetry in motion. There’s nobody else out there who’s as pleasurable to watch…we never lost faith and u proved us right..roger’s fitting reply to all you naysayers!! this was the federer of old; the same federer that was missing for most of this year. just incredible. the best ever..period. the way fedex played today, he would have beaten anyone, rafa included. he completely dismantled murray’s power game.
Credit murray for sticking around…it’s hard to beat both rafa and roger in the same tournament, and this was murray’s best showing, so he has to feel good about that, even though he didn’t play a particularly good final...

King Roger is back
by SANTANU DASGUPTA on Sep 09, 2008 10:59 AM  | Hide replies

What a relief!..Federer holding the trophy again!...I was dying to see this. The master was at his best in the semis and in the final. His artistry is unsurpassed; he glides around the court with a silent, superhuman quality. And he is as graceful off the court as on. Yet so many of us were much too anxious to write him off after the sloppy time he had in 2008. Mayebe because of our inability to make sense of perfection. Maybe Roger is too Princely for us. Nonetheless, it was exciting to see Federer going thru tough times and in the end coming home in flying colours. Go, Roger...Grand Slam no. 14 & beyond..we are always with you...hail the King of Tennis...the supreme artist & a perfect gentleman

possible more ??
How many Grand Slam Titles Sachin Tendulkar would have won in 18 years ??Considering his 11000 Test Runs and 13000 One day runs..........
I think 24 Grand Slam titles, since One Grand Slam Equals 1000 Cricketing runs.
