Who cares for country's pride? Olympics has no money so why should try to give tough fight or generate so much of will power to win. Here money is involve, that's why so much of fighting spirit looking. Jaan ladaa denge aur jeet kar dikhaa denge. Great!!! Jai ho laksmi maiaa ki.

Dear Prem, in grand slams and ATPs there is price money. In olymics there is prize money, and govt/sports bodies/corporates sponsored windfalls. As a matter of fact, an olympics bronze for India brings in more moolah than a gold in any other event.

I feel this criticism is unwarranted. Paes is one of the few players who are ready to give everything for the country.
I am a great fan of Leander Paes. He has been in the international circuit for a long time. What I admire most in him is his fighting quality and never say die attitude. He battled the brain tumor operation and shown admirable quality on the tennis court. He is one of the best players India has ever produced. Even at this age of 35, he has the same strength that is evident on court. He has won many championships in the past in company with Mahesh Bhupathi. He is on the threshold of yet another crown at US Open. He is all likely to get the double crowns winning both the events. We wish him all luck. Mahesh has done one thing wrong by parting with Paes. The both players were on their best and rated top seeded in doubles. Yet they parted and the result was mixed success to both of them. In any case, since Mahesh has bowed out, it is the turn of Leander Paes to make India proud. Indians are watching the development very closely and we all wish that he brings glory to the nation. These players including Sania Mirza have brought India to the World map by their sheer talent and skill without any support from the Tennis Association or Govt. If the youngsters are given proper training and encourage them, India can produce more Paes, Bhupathies and Sanias. The All India Tennis Association should ponder over this seriously and chalk out a plan for future players who should be trained to become international players by roping in foreign coaches and provide all material support to them.
I wish Paes all good luck on his side. His talent is something Indians will be proud of. But I think his comments reflect a bit of arrogance and haughtyness not seen in even the greatest Olympian of all times, Michael Phelps. He should learn to control his emotions, otherwise he is creating a really bad example for the failed newcomers such as Sania.

sorry, You are absolutely wrong. Mahesh has won 6 mixed doubles grand slams 2002 US open doubles partnering Max Mirnyi. Mahesh Bhupati is also a great player like Paes
till now mahesh bhupathi has achieved nothing without leander paes. mahesh bhupathi has big ego . it was leander paes who tried to convince mahesh bhupathi to play doubles in olympic. i can see commitment only from leander and that is why he won bronze in atlanta in olympic. but what mahesh bhupathi has achieved. nothing

he is talking about abhinav bindra's gold medal which is why bhupathi has gone to olympic so he could steal bindra's gold medal
"I don't think there's going be too many Indians coming around who would be able to do what I've done. How far my name can live in those famous history books, that's what we players play for."

The following is the info from Wikipedia: 'Leander was born in Goa, India to Vece Paes and Jennifer Paes and raised in Calcutta, India. He was educated at La Martiniere for Boys, Calcutta. His father and mother were both former Olympians. His father Vece Paes was a hockey player who represented India in the 1972 Munich Olympic games, in the hockey team that won the bronze medal. His mother captained the Indian basketball team in the 1980 Asian basketball championship. Paes enrolled with the Britannia Amritraj Tennis Academy in Madras in 1985 where he was coached by Dave'O'Meara. The academy played a key role in his early development. Leander shot into international fame when he won the 1990 Wimbledon Junior title and rose to No.1 in the junior world-rankings. Paes is the great grandson of the Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt. Previously having dated bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhary, he is now married to Rhea Pillai and has a daughter Aiyana Paes.'
