amit, do not be over excited, since independence, we have only won 15 olympic medals good to see chetan win and i am waiting for the day when we have a top player in a global sport(golf/formula 1/soccer/tennis, etc),so that the world knows and not a few countries, sadly, we have never had a global star, the hyderabi kabab, sania mirza was just a case of the usual, all hype, no substance thx to our headless and clueless indian media and our overexcited, oneeyed indian public
Thank God, after Prakash Padukne and Gopi Chand, we have got some badminton players to represent India at international level. I remember the day, years ago, when our Dinesh Khanna became the world champion at All England Championship.

when prakash padukone became the champion in All England, i listened to it on Radio as there were no TVs then. It was THRILLING
I am sorry for the above posters... but i think you were completely off the boat on this one...
Guys... encourage... he was the first indian to do something... and that deserves a congrats in the least...
as for grand prix events are concerned...i agree they are level 3 on the international badminton circuit...
but how many guys know about level 1 events or level 2 events in badminton...
do you guys know about BWF super series...
level 1 is the super series final
level 2 is the super series open tournaments...
level 3 are the grand prix and the grand prix golds...
and for all you guys, here is some info... With all due respects to Gopi and Prakash Padukone... they never won the BWF super series final...
because it was introduced only last year in 2007...
and as far All England goes, it is definitely considered as one of the most prestigious events because it is the oldest... just like Wimbeldon among the grand slams...
and all england is just one of the 12 open tournaments (Level 2) which serves as a qualifier for the Season Finale...
get your facts right before commenting on someone..,

Mr. Atluru , First you remove from your mind that you know every thing about batminton tournaments. How many seeded players participated in this Grand Prix. Prakash won the All England championship after beating all world top players. In this present grand prix did the current world number 1 to 6 participate . You give credit to Chetan for winning a tournament of Ranji trophy standard. Dont compare it with world cup victory.
