Good Job Done
by GM on Oct 06, 2008 12:27 PM

Well done guys.

Badminton has been my fav sport, but I couldn't take it beyond winning some zonal competitions and a pass time sport. Whenever Indians do good in badminton I feel proud from them. Saina and Chetan are players to be watched on world badminton rankings.

Congrats to all 4 players. We Indians are really proud of you. Keep going.
This success should now open the eyes of all of us, so that we should concentrate on other sports also - like badminton, table tennis, tennis, shooting, archery, boxing, wresting etc.

If Sania Nehwal or Sania Mirza had stayed in Pakistan or Haryana, they would have been killed at birth itself, let alone become sports people. lol

As far as I know, Sania Mirja is born and brought up in Hyderabad. Neha is born outside Hyderabad but representing and trained in AP and so received cash prizes from Cm of AP recently. I don't know about Chetan, but his wife Jwala Gutta who won the doubles event must be from Coastal AP and trained probably in Hyderabad. Jwala Gutta along with her husband also must be residing in Hyderabad too.Although some of them are outside Hyderabad/AP we from AP are proud of them.

Its not important where they have born or from where their ancestors hailed from..thing is from where they have started, practiced and developed as world class sportsmen..and undoubtedly, hyderabad is forefront in this and is now becoming role-model to all other big places in india.

Chetan Anand creates History
by VENKATESWARAN VISWANATHAN on Oct 06, 2008 11:45 AM  | Hide replies

This is not history at all. He is seeded only 30th in the world and this tournament is not ranked at par with All England Badminton. To my knowdge All England Badminton only is considered as tournament of world champshionship. This has been won only by two Indians, Prakash Padukone and P. Gopi Chand. If rediffmail sports scribe does not have any idea of this sport , please do not misguide readers like this. It is a shame on your sports scribes.

I am sorry for the above posters... but i think you were completely off the boat on this one...

Guys... encourage... he was the first indian to do something... and that deserves a congrats in the least...

as for grand prix events are concerned...i agree they are level 3 on the international badminton circuit...

but how many guys know about level 1 events or level 2 events in badminton...

do you guys know about BWF super series...

level 1 is the super series final

level 2 is the super series open tournaments...

level 3 are the grand prix and the grand prix golds...

and for all you guys, here is some info... With all due respects to Gopi and Prakash Padukone... they never won the BWF super series final...

because it was introduced only last year in 2007...

and as far All England goes, it is definitely considered as one of the most prestigious events because it is the oldest... just like Wimbeldon among the grand slams...

and all england is just one of the 12 open tournaments (Level 2) which serves as a qualifier for the Season Finale...

get your facts right before commenting on someone..,

Thanks for the clarification... I actually am not aware of the grading system followed for Badminton tournaments... can you please share a link where I can find these details... thanks a lot... :-)

My idea was not to show disrespect to achievement but was to seek clarification on the HISTORY part... thanks

THE Chetan Anand won the title playing THE Badminton???????
by rajesh r on Oct 06, 2008 11:42 AM

Just drawing the editor's attention to some apalling grammar mistakes. Is there someone to proofread? How does such English slip into print? The word, 'the' is used in places it has no business being, and 'rallied back; is a blooper because 'rallied' itself means 'fought back'. Seeing all this I feel like throwing in the towel, not 'throwing THE towel' like the report says:-)
Anyway, here are the goof-ups: 'It was a memorable day for THE Indian badminton '...'V Diju and Jwala Gutta who wrote THE history first'..'Indian duo RALLIED BACK brilliantly'...'no mood to throw THE towel'...
( pssst...please dont attack me saying I'm elitist and English doesnt matter. It matters when u r reporting in that language, just like a hindi mistakes in a Loksatta or Dainik Jagran is also the mark of a bad writer)
