Bhupathi? Who?
by Shovon Chakraborty on May 22, 2008 10:40 PM  | Hide replies

In Leander Paes, we have the most successful Tennis Player (in terms of Davis Cup Singles won) of all time. I have seen that whenver he plays for the nation and the tri-color is there by the court side, Leander transforms himself from a mediocre player to a different level. Nobody, lest of all, guys putting up messages here in English that would make Shakespeare stir in his grave, are entitled to question his commitment to the country. Bhupathi? Well, from his actions it's clear that he actually is not an India by birth. People have forgotten that he was an NRI and chose to play for India because that was the only way he could get sponsorships. Someone here was talking about Tennis Mafia. Well, ask your favourite Bhupathi why Sania Mirza did not play in WTA Tourney in India. She will definitely change her decision about playing in India and will play in the Sunfeast Open at Kolkata, which is incidentally managed by Globosport, a company promoted by none other than Mahesh Bhupathi.
It is Bhupathi, who is totally responsible for this mess. Of course, some instigations came from one Mr. Vijay Amritraj after his son was not allowed to play in a singles tie in Davis Cup.
Most of the guys have a pitiable knowledge on Tennis. Even today, the so called young (Prakash is 24, Bopanna is 27 ) players won't be able to take a set off Leander.

Bhupathi is 100% right
by streetsmart on May 22, 2008 10:19 PM  | Hide replies

I am a regular club level tennis player and faced the same situation that bhupathi did 2 yrs ago in my club.My partner Rhit Punja didnot want to play (or rather practise) any doubles matches at all for the annual Breach Candy doubles tournament held in our club.I was against it.I thought inview fo 2-3 good teams practice in doubles is a must.He thought people would see our faces and give us the winners cup!!!!!

Result:-We lost 1st rd 62 63.We got thumped and he blamed me for losing.

My reraction:-Never play ever with him in doubles cos he doesnot know what "doubles" is al about(teamwork and team spirit)

Miond you we were a good team and could have won if we had practised doubles.

Well done Bhupathi, you are one step ahead here.

Please avoid using this forum as a means to take potshots at people in your circle of acquaintances. If you really must draw parallels between issues of Olympian proportions and club-level ones, at least show the common decency of not taking names.

You Are right, same thing happen to me. I told my tennis partner Pakya to practice for 3 1 week. BUt he went for his honeymoon. Without practice we loose 1st round of Baigan wadi open tennis tournament. Hope at least he score at his honeymoon.
Practice is must in every aspect of life. Why can't this 2 topmost tennis player understand that. May be sponserhip issue will come whose logo will be bigger. God will give some sense to them before O.

bhadru, maybe paykya did the wise thing by preferring honeymoon.
His honeymoon practice with his bed partner might make him nights more joyous rather than practicing with a loser like u

both are well past their prime
by Ashwin Shankar on May 22, 2008 09:59 PM

how do we even think that these guys are gonna win us a medal. the best chance would be in mixed doubles or with both Paes and Bhupati pairing up with younger and more agile partners. Paes Bhupati partnership died a long time ago and when they couldn't bring medals in the past when they were at their peak, the cannot do it now for sure!

What these guys are doing?
by Raj Kannan on May 22, 2008 09:29 PM

Let the selectors decide who should play? Why this dirty things before Olympics. India's only medal chance(not sure if this goes like this) is tennis doubles. Leave personal difference and show patritism friends.

Ego can destroy all Glory
by ProfSaurabh Sharma on May 22, 2008 09:23 PM

See what ego can do to the glory one achieves in the life. These two players have brought many laurels to the country. But now playing with ego of each other are demeaning themselves in the eyes of countrymen.
We don't require to teach them, just dump them and show that if this country can allow them to sit on our head with grace and praise then we can throw them from the court. Yes... they have their own grave of hatred...

Dump these losers !
by Chris on May 22, 2008 08:57 PM

Can we get rid of these two losers, Leander and Bhupathi, who have in the last ten years damaged Indian tennis beyond repair, by putting themselves ahead of the nation ? They are both only second-rate players, who routinely get knocked out in the quarter-finals of any tournament. They are both not ashamed to wash their dirty linen in public. Leander and his father Vece Paes are running a Tennis Mafia, and have got the Indian Tennis Association completely in their control. Bhupathi is only slightly better than the thug Leander.
Moreover, Leander has an unsavoury personal life. His then-girlfriend, Mahima Choudhary, rushed to be by his side in hospital, when Leander was admitted to hospital for treatment of a brain-infection (caused by eating infected pork-meat). After Leander recovered from his hospitalization, he two-timed Mahima with some other woman, and then dumped Mahima. It's now time for India to dump Leander and Bhupathi. In a nation of 1 billion, is there nobody else who can play decent tennis and represent the country ?

Someone have to break the ice
by divya vinod on May 22, 2008 08:55 PM

It was a good response from Paes, afterall someone have to come forward and appologize. Paes and mahesh have the highest chance of winning and they should forget the difference and play for national interest.
