Indian males

So Indian males are back with bang, discussing Sania and her capabilities without knowing difference between hard-court and clay-court.
Hungry perverts all around our society.....

if you want a place for serious and decent tennis debate, try sports-india, wtaworld and menstennisforums, incase you are not aware .

its difficult for any decent tennis fan to spend too much time here. its not good for mental health with all these braincell killers around.

you think those people who discuss cricket here are any better. 95% of them have no clue about what a doosra is, how a reverse swing differs from a swing ball, what is a leg cutter... (just ask anybody you will realize).

indian sports fans, probably are the most ignorant lot, and so most sentimental too.

Sania is Just an Average Player
by Mac on Mar 17, 2008 01:35 PM  | Hide replies

Sania is Just an Avwrage Player, She is Definetly Going Kournikova Way, Once she Made it to the Top 30 of Women's Tennis, She feels She is Some Fashion Queen, Agreed She has Sexxxx Appeal, But She does Not have The Concentration to Win WTA's , Forget About Grand Slams.

The Best Tennis Player India Has Produced is Leander Paes, Vijay Amritraj and Ramesh Krishnan, Sania is Just Show Piece Material.

Maaf karo hum subko baba aur age badho. Every time she wins or looses, you guys will start moaning. It is not her fault to be good looking or for the fact that media gives her all this attention. Give her a break as well as to yourself. Start appreciating life.

Considering the off court nuisances that Sania has had to deal with such as silly fatwas, fundamentalist clerics, a sex obsessed media and publicity crazy idiots filing frivolous PILs, her achievements are commendable indeed. Leander never had to face this off court nonsense, and yet he never cracked any of the senior pro tournaments. No Indian women's player before was ever ranked in the top 30 of women's tennis. You also need to remember that the competition in the upper levels is quite intense. Unless Sania improves her fitness, consistency in groundstrokes it's always going to be tough. With a world class coach, she can definitely go higher than her current ranking.

Sania is the best "female" tennis player India has ever produced and one of the best Asia has ever produced.
Leander is a class but he is a "male" tennis player, a different category in itself. BTW even no Indian male player has won any singles grand slam either. You can't compare Justine Henin with Roger Federer.
And what do you want? If she is a ordinary player, she stop wearing stylish dresses? Ask any average college going student why he/she wants designer clothes?

I totally agree with you Mr. Virendraji. We should appreciate the efforts of Sania, because she is doing her best for the country. In a country of one billion plus people we do not have very many sportsmen/women. So instead of criticising them all the time (by the know alls) we should encourage their sporting spirit. Best of luck Sania for the next round.

Ramesh Krishnan and Vijay Amritraj reached the quarter finals at Wimbledon and US Open respectively. Leander has come nowhere near those two. I wouldn't put Leander in the same category, notwithstanding his Davis Cup wins. To put that in prespective, the top singles players in the world like Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi used to rarely participate in Davis Cup. So in their absence it's hard to quantify Leander's wins.

leander's highest ranking was in the 70's you twit! he played very few GS main draws where sania has been an automatic qualification(given ehr rankings) since french 2005 !

His singles exploits were mostly in davis cup and one olympics apart from a win over sampras.

Vijay and ramesh have reach quarters of GS
Vijay's singles ranking has been up to 17.

she is not far from achieving those.

Sania Mirza
by Achyutha Raghunath on Mar 17, 2008 01:28 PM  | Hide replies

Sania is a good player no doubt about that. But every time we read a news as Sania advances to the second or third round, the next day we see headlines as Sania is crushed out of the tournament.

For me, Sania has following areas of development -
1. Improve on Serves - Sania is bad in her serves. She wastes so many serves as double faults or nets.

2. She tries to play too many shots across the turf right from the begining which makes her go tired. So by the time she is in third round...her stamina comes down.

3. Sania needs to reduce her body weight especially near her belly, thighs & breast part. Because of over weight she cannot move across the turf swiftly & can be tiring.

4. Reduce the amoount of media hype. No doubt she is good looking but her main aim should be to play tennis & ads comes next.

If she over come all these things...then we can see Sania in under 10 ratings.

All the best & God bless Sania.

The weight aspect is correct. She needs to lose weight and build more upper body muscle. If we observer top players like Sharapova or Justine Henin or Venus Williams, they hardly have any fat on their bodies. Consistency in ground strokes is another problem for Sania. Like the Indian cricket team, she will produce one winner and then hit two bad shots. Unless this improves, it's going to be tough to win against bigger opponents. A top coach to work on her mental game and a physical fitness coach cum therapist can help improve her performances.
