Italy beat France to reach last eight
by cajetan coelho on Jun 21, 2008 03:15 PM

Injured Patrick's inability to take the field deprived Les Bleus of inspiration and solidity in the middle. The inspirational hero of a many a battle was sorely missed by the immensely multi-cultural football team of France. Let us wish Patrick a speedy recovery and a quick return to the playing arena. There is plenty of quality football yet to come from the boots of the dynamic Frenchman.

BID ADEU FRANCE - SEE YOU AT WC 2010
by cebujonas on Jun 18, 2008 08:43 PM

--------------------
I was on upbeat for France since their 1984 Euro win...

I have never seen such a foolish team since then even at 2002 WC..

Good that Makelele retired yesterday itself, such a crap player, nver seen with accurate passes..

Also Sidney Govou, mind child of current coach Raymond, is a fool to waste a sitter in the beginning...

Team lacked luck as Ribery gone, redcard to Abidal..

Also Samir Nasri, Toulalan, were like idiots..

Right flank Clerc cant match Sagnyol anyways..

Only player worked hard is Karim Benzema, looks like a future Eric Cantona..

Thierry Henry should be suspended from the team for ever for wasting chances and deflecting the Italian free kick..He is too Jaded..

Also, France lost Good spirits with Zidane'e exit..

Viva France, come back...we're here to roar for you...

italy to go all the way. ..!!
by Bunty on Jun 18, 2008 12:23 PM

Initaially italy did not have luck, dutch were awarded first goal despite offiside. italy's own ligitimate goal was given offlside against romania.
but things changed, buffons penalty save against romania changed the course. it gave them life line.
now romanaia are out and italy in.
i think there is no stopping for italy now, it shall go all the way.

Is it an European team ?
by Chatt on Jun 18, 2008 11:22 AM

I have to repeat the same words whichI said earlier ....this French team looks more like an African team.... Rather than hiring people from their colonies France should start grooming their own men ....
Its a pity to see the team full of people frm WesT African Conies or Algeria.

U may love France for their contribution to love and particularly "French Kiss"...but I am sure u wont like to try one with this bunch of footballers frm French team...First of all u can hardly find a genuine French man in this team ...most of them have their roots from West African Colonies or Algeria.

Am not criticising France but it looks like a united nations team..

May be Ribery, Coupet and Clerc are pure French..

Abidal from Algeria

Gallas, Makelele from Morocco..

Henry from Surinam

Samir Nasri, I guess he must ve got persion tradition

Benzema also...

Last world cup they ve got an Indian tradition player too !!!! (Vikash Dhorasoo)

Anyways Thanks France for the good show with Zidane in yesteryears

Pathetic performance
by kskumar on Jun 18, 2008 08:13 AM

It is a pathetic performance from France, reminding one of their exit from the 2002 WC, when they failed to score even once in their league matches and were eliminated. May they need younger players. Many of the present team are more than 30 and past their prime.

Where is India ?
by mohan on Jun 18, 2008 06:06 AM  | Hide replies

Where is world's largest country in sports like these ? Maybe India should apply for a special quota to participate in world sports like football, baseball, ice-hockey, basketball, baseball, cycling etc ;-)

Sorry, couldn't resist that. Hope sports commercial johnnies in India focus on promoting sports other than cricket.

Wait for few years.......

All the people you ridicule and look down upon today as SC, ST & OBC are today getting the opprtunities to compete with the so called higher by birth people who till not a long time ago made sure that only they used all the resources and the opportunities did not reach some sections of scoiety like SC,ST,OBC.

These people are getting educated today, getting jobs and are allowed to compete. The day is not far, mind you of a sick ancient mentality, that these very people will outshine you all in all aspects of life as they are hungry for opprtunity and will lap up any opprtunity to prove their mettel.

You are a complaicent lot, believe that you have birth right to grab all that is available. You are fast running out of gas.........SC,ST and OBC are really working hard.

They will beat you in sports as well.

By no means are they any less in any aspect. Now they are getting opportunity thas all.

its just due to ppl like you that brilliant and skillful people leave india to work in US or uK... as they cant get opportunity to become a doctor/enginner... why... cause even though the kid has got 90%.. the seat is given to a some slump SC St candidate who has scored 40%....

If you are jumping so much for reservation why dont u go on hunger strike and get reservations for indian cricket team, army, navy airforce or maybe judiciary...

"we are here", yes you guys are there. But whom are you guys competing with...fellow indians only? and you like all this at the cost of prevailing inequality amongst we all by this quota system. Law and courts have had been always there for people from all walks of life.
Lets take it the right way.

Dear Arjun, do you think I am critical of

my brothers and sisters, fellow Indians ?

I am critical of Indian political solutions and policies. To make people catch up to international skills, you should not lower the bar/standards. You should make them fit enough

to compete with the best. It is self-defeating to lower the standard and expect the world to accept us. Why the world ? Our own Indian politicians will not visit a reservation doctor

created by their policies.

My comment is strictly for opportunistic Indian politicians who are putting everyone at risk.

Regards.

Dear Mohan,

Any attempts to paint SC,ST in poor light will back-fire. These are not incompetent people. You crack more jokes at the expense of SC, ST, OBC you have a short laugh. You harm your selves many ways. You propagate a myth that SC,ST and OBC are below standard. These people retaliate more, work harder and beat you. You and your people start believing your jokes to be true, dont work hard enough taking things for granted, and when faced with tough competition from SC, ST, OBC are caught off-guard. Then you blame reservations, curse SC,ST, OBC and try to find excuses for your failures and traditionally and fashionably you blame SC,ST, OBC for your incompetence.

You are lowering the bar thus.

SC,ST, OBC form majority of this population and they are claiming their opprtunities which Indian system did not allow them and is now allowing gradually. Another few years, mind you well, that the people of reservations are going to beat any one in the world in any game.

I hate politicians. But if you need the best surgeon to replace your joints come to me, I am a reservation guy, when you grow old. You have no choice but me to come to if you really want the best. If you are happy with mediocre, guys born in rich families who did not need reservation, you are free.

Cant you see the fire burning, dear. The time has come.

Dear Arjun,

I'm sure there are many cream of cream in the SC/ST/OBC categories. In fact my neighbour who was an SC did not need reservation quota, he was too good in what he did. You will agree that the world will not see our problems and lower potential - we have to step on to the world stage and compete with the europeans, africans and americans in athletics and sports.

I believe that it is our poor policies and not the people who are responsible for lack of proper sports results at any level in the world.

My grouse is against arrogant politicians who keep the reservation bogie for vote-catching purposes. Dr Ambedkar, in all his wisdom said the policy is not a solution and it should be reviewed.

Anyway, if I have not conveyed my view properly to you I regret my starting post. I've no problem coming to your clinic and get treated.

Best regards.

Mr Arjun,

I am strongly opposing whatever u r saying.do u know anybody a well known person who is in private sector, no there is nobody, bcz still there is no reservation, all tribals have only one place that is gov jobs, bcz here u all have reservation. Now if you r a well informed person then go to the last 10 years records of student at IITs/IIMs. Mostly student who are enterning under quota system can not complete their engineering in 4 years, same for IIMs. you are able to enter IAS,IES,PSUs bcz of only reservation, and if u r correctly remembered the proceddings after 1947,Reservations are only to serve vote bank for these politicians. How many good surgeons do u know who are from reserved category. So boss u people r only made for corrupt Bureaucracy . U cant Compete in private sector. bcz of these reservations indian Politics is just a place for communism. If you want to see india as superpower quit ur reserved category, Compete in open. and if u want really some help then it should be financially not for jobs.appending bharatiya to your name u wont become true indian.u r cursing ur fellow indians on the name of reservations...but u cant stop using this bcz "Paka hua halwa chorne ka man nahi kar raha"........

Russia, Turkey ??

Kindly come back to earth. We're not going to defeat Russia and Turkey any time soon - they are megastar teams for us. I heard that we lost even against Maldives recently.

Thanks for the laughs. Best if we stop watching cricket and focus on real sports.

Football and other games with thrive in India if it is run by me who understand the game and not by politicians and bureaucrats. Why do people keep pulling down cricket? The "commercial johnies" promote cricket because it's one game where India has had some success in the recent past. The game has established itself and money, though not all of it, is spent in developing the game and laying out better infrastructure. Can we say the same about other sports. While the BCCI has rules and the people who run the game change after elections,we have PR Dasmunshi running football, (till recently...after 17 years?) KPS Gill running hockey, Suresh Kalmadi running the IOA...the list could go on. At least in cricket, we do have change of incumbents, and while their style of functioning may not be palatable, they do not interfere in either team selection or other things blatantly so as to affect the team morale or competance.

Dear Sunil .. do you consider cricket as a true sport ? Barring exceptional guys like Kapil ( ace at golf, plays football, badminton etc ), Gooch, Johnty Rhodes, and South African greats, most of them do not have athletic skill and interests outside the lazy sport.

We have pampered cricketers. I'm not denying that they have shown results occasionally. But is it the results we want ? Anyday, I would prefer Vishwanathan Anand's staggering achievements, Prakash Padukone's All-England and Swedish Championship titles, and even our snooker/billiards champs. Recently Jeev achieved a Golf title.. do we know about it? A few years back Harikrishna, our chess prodigy was planning to quit chess as he did not get sponsorship ( he later got it ).. I still think we do not have a cogent Sports policy. No wonder we don't even get Limba Rams nowadays.
