Germany is an awesome team with awesome history.
But they look a shade less energetic than Croatians or the Dutch.

Hope they win. Hope the best team wins.

Germany have always done well when the odds are against them. They are the best team in the world. For me, the likes of Voller and Klinsmann are greater than Sachin and Dravid any day.

I am sure that the Germans will meet Holland in the final and football's most bitter rivalry will be renewed again.

I was really tense when Germany played Austria but it is better that Germany win ugly and progress rather than play well and lose.

Great stuff kaushik. I too love Germany. I think most Indians love Germans whether Germans win or lose. Maybe if Indian players had the ability they would have emulated Bekenbaur, Voller, Klinsmann, Matheus, Ballack, Podolski, Klose, Scheinsteiger ...

u knw Mr. Mohan, I too like u used to love Germany...But frankly speaking after having stayed there for some time I really dont carry similar feelings anymore...they r one of the most racist and proudy race.... not only me even people from southern Spain and southern Italy were looked down upon ....an Spanish frdof mine was denied entry in a club as his skin colour wasnt as white as the germans .....
Every other nationals in Europe hate Germans for their attitude .... though I admit there are always exceptions....I do have many close German frds who r broadminded

hello Chatt, your first-hand view is greatly appreciated.

Maybe we can only admire Germany from afar then,
for its many industrial high-tech giants and great sports capabilities.

And add to that their past stars - Rahn, Walther, Moerlock from 1954, Seeler, Emmerich, Tilkowski from 1966 and of course the famous trio of Beckenbauer, Muller, Maier from 1974. German football has been derided for dull play but they have fought the toughest matches of all time.

I am sure Germany will not disappoint us this time too. Germans are thought to be racist but the Germans I have met have been very warm and friendly. I remember a visit to a German ship called 'Sturmfels' owned by Hansa Lines, Bremen in 1977 when I was seven years old.

Germans have been instrumental in India's independence for their support of Netaji and the setting up of the Azad Hind Fauj. Netaji met Ribbentrop and Hitler in Berlin in 1941 and they extended all support to India. Only Goering was suspicious and though Netaji was a communist spy which he later found was not true. One of Netaji's best friends was Adam von Trott who was also very pro Indian and who was later hanged for his role in Operation Valkyrie.

Germans have no respect for Italians, Spanish and Turks whom they however like but do not consider them equal in status. I guess this is justified to some extent if you see the sneaky and furtive nature of at least Turks and Italians who make up the labour class in Germany.

For me, Germany is 'mein fatherland'- a country I can give my life for. As they say 'ich bein ein deutschlander' - I am a German.

How can it be said Italy has qualified??
by Green Earth on Jun 18, 2008 03:21 AM  | Hide replies

I see that there is one more match in Group-C between Netherlands and Romania. Romania already has 2 points for 2 matches. If Romania wins against Netherlands, then Italy will be sent out and it would be Netherlands and Romania who would be qualified for the quarter-finals of Euro 2008. Correct me if I am wrong.
