Euro 2008
by kskumar on Jun 10, 2008 09:04 PM

Next to the FIFA WC, Euro cup is probably one soccer event to look forward to. For sheer action and thrills nothing can compare with soccer.

It is a pity that DD is not covering this tournament, engrossed as usual with cricket. No wonder we never get anywhere in any other sport.

My heart goes out to Rudd Van Neselroy, the
ex Manchester United forward. He is a gem and leads a super team. Wish him all the best.

I have been a supporter of France for a long time, starting from '82. Let us see what the French have in store. Zidane is no longer around, but they have some very good players starting with Karim Benzema and Thierry Henry. Pity that David Trezeguet couldn't make the squad though. Let us hope the aging legs of Lilian Thuram, Claude Makelele and Patrick Viera have enough left to outrun their rivals.

Guys, India -Pakistan rivalry is the real thing!!
by sandeep kumar on Jun 10, 2008 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

Just cant wait for the match to start-betweeen the greatest rivals ever. To watch team India batsmen would be the greatest thrill, rather than support some Europe nation, which most of us have not even been to the country. WHen team India's matches are on, i think all of us Indians should be supprting our team. Good luck, men in blue!

For a change, talk of football and not cricket. Compared to football, cricket is nowhere either in the thrills or fan following. And all this addiction to cricket is preventing us from enjoying other sports.

Dutch in good form - time for spain...
by rajan bhatt on Jun 10, 2008 02:01 PM  | Hide replies

Holland and Spain - two of the greatest footballing nations need to put their hands up and perform this time....The Dutch have already made a wonderful start this time and tonight its spain's turn to show their class.
These two nations play very good attacking football - not like the italians or french who strive on a stronger defence. Luck has also played a big part in their underachievements but thankfully yesterday nothing like that happened. The Italians did try their best to break down the rhythm of the dutch by committing their usual fouls but the dutch were clearly the more determined and the fluid team yesterday. Kudos holland keep it going now....

Way back in 1988 I watched the duch team win Euro 88 with the maestros like Gullit, Basten and Rijkaard at their peak. That was the first major international soccer tournament I watched. I have been a fan of duch football since then. Yesterdays match surely reminded me of that team of 88.

yeah kaushik....thanx for reminding about "total football"....that changed the way football was played all over the world...
And thanx also for reminding the great generation of Dutch players like Gullit, Van basten and Rijkaard....
Although he came a bit later, you forgot mentioning Dennis Bergkamp - DB10...who played amazing football not only for holland but also for Arsenal for a long time....
But with their youth policies and the team that won the under-21 world cup last time, The Dutch are only going to get stronger in the next decade or so....
One also hopes that the fantastic club AJAX - also gets a revival and becomes a major force in the next couple of years...They too have a fantastic youth policy and have groomed some of the best players in the world.
