Sports lovers, Just ask yourself whether India has: Proper infrastructure to provide a platform to talented hockey player to shine? An organized local leagues matches, like other developed countries?

Me and my friends quit our jobs, without much savings, to try to pump up Indian Hockey: We are launching IndiaKhelo.com, which will create local sports leagues all over India and help us find talented players from each corner of India.

Currently we are looking for partners (people who are equally passionate about Indian sports as we are) from all over India. If anyone finds it interesting, please do visit IndiaKhelo.com

This is awesome news for indian hockey...

But its coming in 2 yrs time...and time is ripe now to start the infrastructure up and also get the hype started...It will benefit them only in the long run since ticket sales and TV money are sure to increase if only they do the right knid of marketing..

Don't just blame cricket...I am no fan NOW, but it is an epitome of sports management...ESp Indian cricket...

So, IOA and Indian Hockey Federation(IHF) etc etc...Please, manage this event well and team India, try to do something special...may be this is just the shot in the arm you were waiting for//

India already qulaified and the first team to qualify. They won the asia cup. Though india wouldn't host the cup, it would have got qulaified.

Dont Hold World Cups in India
by mahe on Jul 18, 2008 05:35 PM  | Hide replies

Whenever India hosts a World cup its team never reached the final, as it is nothing much is expected from the hockey team ...
even in cricket:
1987 (Aust vs Eng) final
1996 (Aust vs SL) final

Its only the companies sponsoring the world cup win ..but the people's heart breaks

Improve Hockey

In every game the selection committee must have selectors from that game and also have 4-5 members from the society of big industrialists, prominent actors, Media like Aaj Tak, Zee News etc. and if it happens I hope these people will not compromise for money and they will try to improve the game for the sake of their reputation.

Pune is going to hold Youth commonwealth Geames in cot 2008(Pune is the Suresh Kalmadi's home City and he is elected MP from Pune)...and now its almost Jluy end and I can see(as I live in Pune) even stadium which is going to host the games itself is not completed and the condition of the approach road is pathetic.
This is the situation in the Mr Kalmadi's home town then I think he should not go in any international arena to request to host any sports events....
Even he dont have any moral right to be president of IOA,when he can not organize such a big event in his own hown Town...this is Pity that now world will be able to comment on India when they will come for Youth Commonwealth games in PUNE.... Is Mr Kalmadi Listing....

Good news for Indian Hockey!!
by David Coverdale on Jul 18, 2008 04:47 PM  | Hide replies

This is a big shot in the arm of Indian hockey...generally, hosting such a mega event like a World Cup leads to general improvement in the infrastructure in the game...more stadii, more astro-turf practice clubs...mind you, we will do all this only to boost our image in the eyes of the foreign media which will be here to cover the mega-event in great detail..

But the thing is that, after the mega-event is over, the infrastructure won't disappear or vanish in thin sky, it will be here to stay and will then benefit local players....

I see an upswing in the fortunes of Indian Hockey after 2010....good going IHF and all the best to Indian Hockey....nobody expects you to have a podium finish...all that we expect is a top 6 showing....

It is really nice to read. Shall be grateful if u suggest some to improve the game before the start of this mega event. The infrastructure like more stadiums, more astro-turf practice clubs etc. will be ready only just before start of the game.

But last week there was a confusion about the Coach that if he is leaving the team.

We should be clear on that also so that we can see some wins also.
