Bhupathi is being opportunistic!
by G on Feb 29, 2008 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

I have high regard for Bhupathi as a player, but he is using this situation for his own purpose. Both Bhupathi and Paes have their own ego problems. Bhupathi never liked Paes being appointed as a captain, and certainly doesn't want to take his instructions. So he jumped on to the Paes-Prakash issue, and trying to mislead the team members.

That is a simplification of matters. You already have taken a side before knowing any iota of truth. Lee is a great player for India but that does not mean he is right here.

Without knowing the real issues, we can take side and debate ... but better watch song in youtube

Take a poll
by sur sur on Feb 29, 2008 08:21 AM  | Hide replies

If we take a poll of tennis fans,I feel Bhupati will not get support of even 10% of the fans. Most people would support leander. The problem is Leander wears his heart on his sleave and this is being misused by others for their ends.

WHERE WAS BHUPATHI WHEN LEANDER WON WIMBLEDON SINGLES JUNIOR ? keshava moorthy,No. you are WRONG. india played in finals in DAVIS CUP with ramesh krishnan, amritraj brothers and leander as well. he has been a workhorse. Bhupathi's motives have always been selfish, he was always opportunistic in choice of players (in doubles, though there is nothing wrong in it) - but he is nowhere as far as davis cup is considered.

Right, Leander has been a pivotal figure in wherever India has been represented in last 10 years or so. Contribution is highly commended and we all respect him for that.
But crux of issue is not his contribution, but how is dealing with the team members. All of a sudden four of the members can not come and fire against him for nothing. And no one can say that Buhpati have made them do this. Leander certainly has a lot of issues with his attitude and can't really get along with people. It is mainly because he has to get the lime light and he has to be the leader and he has to talk and talk and talk.

Please check your records, Mr. Moorthy.

This Bhupathi boy was discovered by Leander in US playing college level matches. Leander brought him into the national team and then made him his doubles partner in the international tennis circuit. Rest is history. Mahesh owes his fame, and whatever came with that, to Leander, largely.

Before 2007 very few were aware of Rohan's existence in the tennis circuit.

And, Prakash...., well, that 'Amritraj' sirname is not enough to get him in the team. He is not even a shadow of his famous father.

Now these three have teamed up against their mentor.

You may not like my views but these are facts

I agree. Leander has done more for India. If he says that some of the players are not trying hard enough, then probably it is true. But this has obviously tripped the others ego.

INDIA should win only....
by Sandip Mitra on Feb 29, 2008 07:31 AM

It is admired by all that Paes and Bhupati both are great players. Both are brougth honour for Indian Tennis. But it is true for Indian Tennis also which is applicable to all the sports -"Any Sports is above all Individuals".
This time is a real crisis for Indian Tennis, when it has started blooming again. AITA should take it seriously. They should teach lesson to both Paes and Bhupati. So that Paes can't show his emotions against others in public and Bhupati can't play politics.

Bhupati get your act right
by Newswatch on Feb 29, 2008 05:58 AM  | Hide replies

I think Bhupati is raking up dissent in the team just to get at Leander.I see the holoowness of the statement when he says "I know Leander for a long time, he has some very good qualities especially as a leader. But, he has to play singles, doubles and has to worry about the team also, literally too much on his plate". Crocodile tears. Nobody is fooled.

Bhupati is a gentleman. Paes is not. He tends to indulge in media PR and one upmanship. Paes ahs sucked upto AITA and thought he could get away with his charlatanism.

It is not just Bhupati. Entire Indian team has walked out on paes.

I think the whole problem started when Leander prefered one very young player (Somdev ?????) over the other established players like Prakash, who has been playing for a long time but could not give the results. It has certainly to do with the egoes of the individual players. They donot qualify even in the first round of major tennis tournaments, so davis cup is the only way to show their existance.
