now it may be a nice answer for the ones like ,,shobha dey .Recently i went through one of her article in which she mentioned that how only one like abhinav bindra , a millionaire can ,can avail to have a medal.Now i would like her to go through yesterday's headline of an indian daily which highlits the miserable condition in which the indian pugilists prepare themselves .This country don't need the blanket of unreasonable shits from the likes of shobha dey ,,but it just needs someone who could spearhead to accrue the desired status of india in the arena world sports.

I am a bit perplexed, vijender has entered the semifinal, that means there are four Boxers in the fray, yet the media and every one around is saying that his medal is Sure, could someone please guide me

Yes Anand, in BOXING there is no BRONZE medal match. All the boxers who reach the semis are assured of a medal atleast.

the funda is that in any combat sport all who make to semi finals are considered to be deserving winners of a prize , coz in ancient olympia such contestants were warriors who were highly respected, but as there could only be one winner there has to be a gold and a silver macth which is the finals

for gold and silver, we have the "Final"... the winning semi-finalists play each other in the final match.. and losing semi-finalists get Bronze medals..

Thank you gentlemen for the information, I was similarly puzzled in the evening when i had seen another contestant on the podium receiving the Bronze medal along with Sushil Kumar, later i learnt that the losers of the finalist contestants compete with each other (To remove the anamoly of having lost to the Silver/Gold medalist in the opening rounds itself)

In boxing two contestants will get bronze medals. In other words there are two bronze medals in Boxing. 75 KG category in which Vijendar won is a prestigious one because it is next to Heavy Weight boxing.
susheel kumar had got around 2 crores by today's evening...vijayender would probably get more than that but what about those boxers who lost in quarter finals....they should also get at least half of what these boxers are getting...

Haryana govt has announced an award of 25 lakhs to each of the boxers who reached quarterfinals.
11 people(fools) play 11000 people(fools) watch - Bernard Shaw about Cricket. There was so much of craze about cricket, the slowest and lengthiest game on the earth. It should be made mandatory that BCCI should contribute atleast 25% of its revenue for the development of other sports. If that happens, in next olympics 10 medals are assured. Congrats again to all those who made us to walk tall.

He has to win one more match to get Bronze at least. It is not possible to get three medals for 4 in SF. Similar mistake was done by media when Paes went to Semi Final where he lost. But then he had to win match with another defeated Semi Finalist Thomas Enquist to get the medal. Media improve ur quality fo news

No, it is the rule in Boxing that both the losing semifinalists will get bronze. This rule was drafted by the World Boxing Federation and Olympics committee for boxing and was first introduced most probably in Barcelona 1992 (I'm not sure)
