by Suresh R on Aug 03, 2008 09:10 PM  | Hide replies

There seems to be dearth of developing competencies by this guy.....instead because he has stupid shareholders money at his disposal ....yeh thaili leker goom raha hain.
Pehle yahan tho woh kuch kar dikhaye.....all his ventures are paper tigers aur nah hi iska paas aadmi hain to run his shows .....god knows what is he upto?????

Suresh, investing in a club doesn't mean throwing away the money. All the major European clubs are businesses and they earn millions. The point is whether they earn enough. It is just like an investment.

You are calling the shareholders stupid. Well, if you are one, go to the AGM of ADAG companies and raise this issue there. If you are not, then how the share holders' money is used doesn't concern you.

The Ambani brothers do not figure India's Top 200 taxpayers and he is World's sixth richest guy!!1 Even Mayawati akshay kumar and sachin have paid more tax than them. share od reliance power sold at 450 now trading at 150 after Amar supporting UPA else @130. They know how to befool Indian and buy officials to suit them.

You seem to have missed the point. ADAG's competence will be judged and judged harshly by the market conditions. Till then, it is not for us to comment on his business dealings, unless we happen to be share holders. As an Indian, I would like to see my fellow countrymen excel in all spheres, whether it is Mittal or the Tatas or the Ambanis. Didn't many of us feel happy when Mittal bagged Arcelor or when the Tatas acquired Corus? The Magpies' investment should be seen from this viewpoint.

Please do not compare Tata to Ambanis if you know anything about Indian business ethics, which i believe you don't know.Just see How tatas grow fighting britishers bringing first plane to India then First Indian car, Ambanis just see what happened to reliance power how he kept the of share @Rs450 for aco. with zero production he got himself these shares at par!!

You seem to have a dislike for the Ambanis. Well, you are entitled to your views. But do not think that only you know about business ethics and no one else does. I am aware of their past dealings and have no special liking for the Ambanis. But Ambani is an Indian like you and me and he is buying a football club at England. What is wrong in wishing him success?

We were talking at sport shirt level, and you have come down to below the belt level! Ok wallet level. Yes, unlike Tata, this group does reprsent face of 'crony' capitalism and not the kind of business ethics Tata is associated with. Atleast that is the impression they make by their ditinct and utterly close proximity with several politicians. Ofcourse, this may be only an impression and not really true, we need to reserve our judgement.

But the 'Dad Ambani' was a truly great man who transformed Indian business scene and fully deserves Bharat Ratna like the way JRD receieved it. Sincerely think so. His political proximity was due to legal incongruities and there was no other rational way out other than interfere with law making itself.

Hope next-gen reform gets rid of the need for crony capitalism once and for all by setting the laws free from discretionary ambiguties.

There was a time when I used to know each and every player in East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. Sudhir Karmakar, Salien Manna, Habib, Surujit Sengupta, Akbar, Thangaraj, Bhaskar Ganguli...all these were big names for us. We were in absolute awe of Jarnail Singh and when India lost 7-1 to China wept profusely, the saving grace being Inder Singh's goal. Somehow these integrity of those innocent emotions could not be carried forward, something gave away.

Now we are literally carrying coal, sorry money, to newcastle.

Yes, this appears to be following the Mittal route. First acquire overseas before you are allowed to do anything meaningful in India, for politics is still saddled in laws which does not promote genuine market reforms.

Hope next-gen reforms include marketisation of sports so that brand value can be built which in turn finance sports infrastructure, which in turn instill excellence in sports.

It is bitter-happy news, as a Kannadiga may be wont to say, will it spring an Ugadi in our sports?

Dear All Stock Share holders / partners of company.

This Ambanis, in the history, never give anything to the share holdeers. Yes the prices of shares are certainly going high, but thatz due to the "satta" and "speculations". In the stock and shares scam in the history of India starting from Harshad Mehta / Ketan Parekh, many small and big, new comers and oldies expert, must have lost their millios and lifes. Did Ambani gone their? Have them given any statement of volatility of their share prices??? They are completely insensitive and what more, still Indian people believe in their companies and invest as if there are no other companies in India. They put trust, faith and invest their hope in them.

This values means that Ambanis must use their people money wisely, sensibly so that none sharehold value of money is eroded.

These days one brother buys criket team and other is racing to go for United Castle. Here, investment gurus and other independent financials advise to common man that do not invest in the business and / or companies you don't know. What does this Ambani know about Magpie???? Glamour, style, status, and top of it they know that this is the public money. If something goes wrong, who is to looose, its the public to loose. Why they do this type of waste of money ( investment)?

Have any body heard that Ambanis undertook social responsibility like tatas? I also never heard of any charities by their any of the group. They earn from the money given b

People like u always think crooked....u guys get jealous of someones success. When u talk of social responsibilities which are not taken up by ambanis like the tatas...Ask yourself first...what social responsibilities have u handled as a citizen???...I bet none...look at your ownself first and then point out fingers at others.

Both are billionaires and yet dont come in the first 10 top tax payers in the country. Should I say anyhting more...........

Making money is neither a sin nor a crime. But if one tries to make money through crime (dont we call cheating a crime)and shady deals (if one does this with friends and brothers, what one is called), and if the same thing happens with millions of people, then can we call it simply"money making"

260 million pounds is approx Rs 2000 Crores which is more than the budget of some of our smaller states! With this kind of money, Indian Football can be a world beater and also a long term revenue earner ! But then, the Ambanis have always been impatient with short term gains!

However, the sixth richest man in the world and one of the top paid CEOs of this country does not figure in the top 200 tax payers of the country - does that not say a lot of paying taxes you dimwit? If you have the guts answer tht!

rajesh p, I understand your angst about the Ambani's not paying taxes, but I do not agree with your point, that if we spend 2000 crores we will be the best football playing nation in the world. Look at BCCI, the richest cricketing board & our players are the most inconsistent bunch in the playing scene.

Nisha, Rome was not built in a day! Investing that kind of money into football will attract many a youngster to take it seriously as a living rather than just a sport - like all the top teams / countries have and the results are there for people to see. Even Indian cricket's performance has improved from a meagre 5% of wins in Test matches in the nineties to a 33% in the 2000-2008. And with the talent available after the IPL, India is no longer considered the whipping boy of cricket as it used to be three decades ago but one of the few teams that can take on the best on a given day!
Moreover, people who can manage huge corporates could probably manage such talents as exist in India far better than the political honchos who control cricket today in India.... It's time the corporates took over!
