Federer will return
by karthick anand on Aug 03, 2008 02:35 PM  | Hide replies

Congrats to Rafa but Federer will be motivatde more than eveer to come back with vengeance..its hard to say if rafa will stay at No.1 for long..hard courts have never been kind to him so until the clay season begins next year its going to be tough for him...we will know in US open..i expect only Federer or Djokovic to win

Federer may return, but History is against him. If he manages to return, he will not just have to put in a mamoth effort in terms of the physical effort in defying the ageing body, he will halso have to defy the load of History weighed against him. Nobody has been able to make the kind of comeback we are talking about. For the time being, Federer may have to work very hard to stay at no.2 position.
It will be a pity if he is not able to break Sampras' record of winning most Slams, for we are not going to see a better player in our generation.

Perormance, No.1
by Akshaya Nayak on Aug 03, 2008 07:29 AM

Nadal, best wishes for such traumatic win and victory in every manner should come to you.Because you are that player who by showing the true competitive skills to win every game, as you have shown your capabilities in every game & taking that Game as important than showing your indomitable spirit in the Final match. Best wishes to you & you have to continue the same victory, because, Federrer has the capability to return in any manner. However getting the No.1 position is not as important as maintain it for the years to come.
Tough days ahead for you , best wishes again...

interesting times ahead
by chelsea on Aug 02, 2008 07:04 PM

Finally...after a record number of weeks as World No.2, Nadal is about to claim the top spot. It will be interesting to see how Nadal handles the top spot. All the pressure and media attention will be on him and given his success against fed, he will be favorite to win when they two meet again.
The next few months are going to be very interesting.

A message for Dr V Vasudevan

Sir
How do you feel after Nadal securing the no.1 position.
Do you now mind if anyone (and I mean anyone) declares Nadal the favourite to win any title, despite Federer having won 12 Grand Slams?
After all Sir, you have been following Tennis since 1966, and likes of Borg should seek your permission before declaring anyone the favourite to win any title?
Sir, I have a feeling Federer is going to slip to no. 3 very soon. Please pardon me for having this feeling without your permission.
I hope you have not had a heart attack.
Sincerely yours
vijay (The boorish and loutish)
Sir, please believe me. I still do not know the meanings of the two words. Coming from an English expert like you, they must be meaning something great.
Once again, yours sincerely Sir!

oh vijay,u still remember that man who acted so childish that day, these type of ppl will never accept anything against their favourites.its important ppl needed to respect roger for his dominance...but everything comes to an end one day,n federer is passing that period.with due respect to the unofficial former world no.1(nadal is no. 1 on 18th),it is nadal's time now n ppl need to respect him unlike most of the fedex fans, who just can't tolerate anything against federer....n mr.vasudevan is one of them.forget the man.cheers!

Mr vijay....you r probably right...nadal will be the favourite to win on any surface he plays...but that does not necessarily mean that he is going to win them....this is probably the year of his life and who knows he might well have a couple of more years like this....but evryone falls from their honeymoon.....2 years ago, we were thinking is there any human on this earth who can stop the might of roger federer in big matches(coz come the big matches, he was virtually dismantling everyone)...so my point is..yes nadal is the best right now...but now is the most difficult period which is the "consistenty" which is required.

The challenge lies ahead for NADAL....
by RS RAVINDRA on Aug 02, 2008 05:08 PM

Nadal has achieved just about 25% of what Federer has achieved in his career so far. The real challenge for him is to maintain his form and stretch it to as far as 4-5 years; which is exactly what Roger managed to do. Federer has had a blip in career from last year (worse this year). If Nadal can maintain his intensity to remain at the top and match what Federer did, THEN he truly deserves this feat. Otherwise, there is always the FEDEX waiting to pounce over him. True, in his current form, Federer has no chance to overcome him on any surface. But Performances of different players are only relative at different periods. Nadal has to show his mettle at difficult circumstances, which every player has to endure. So, the road lies ahead for nadal...

absolutely! Roger is definitely more talented than Rafa, but somehow there is some complacency that is present in his game of late, which is the main reason for his losses of late. On the other hand, Rafa is always focussed on his goals and never takes any opponent lightly! Great to see the Spanish bull achieving his goals by means of dedication, commitment and lots of hard work! But the best part is that he continues to improve!!! thats quite scary...:) At 22, he has won 5 grand slams and if his present form is absolutely unbelievable...All the best Rafa for the Olympics and the US Open!!! way to go.....

Congratulations Rafa
by mayur prabhu on Aug 02, 2008 11:20 AM

The ultimate prize has finally come to Rafa. Those who say he doesnt deserve it or that it is a fluke either need to seek psychiatric help or are just Fedex fans who have not yet come to terms with his successive defeats.Fedex and Rafa are great champions with enormous respect for each other, this rivalry has the makings of the other great tennis rivalries of the past.It was refreshing to see that while Fedex was the first to admit that Rafa was the deserving winer at Wimbledon, even in his moment of triumph Rafa didnt forget to pay tribute to Fedex's long reign at the top.Thats why its amusing to see Fedex fans at rediff.com babble like morons and call Rafa's achievements a "fluke".Grow up guys.
