Start of an end

Is this the starting of the end for Federer?
He is playing very average tennis from past 1 year and Nadal seems all geared up to take on Federer on grass also. I see Nadal vs Tsonga as the next big thing in Tennis.

Do not write him off just yet.. It is just that people have found some chink in his armoury.. He will be back soon to what he does.. That's winning..

not quite, perhaps the fire inside him has gone down a bit, but u never know with these great players, in a slam, he might just come out and annihilate his opponents.

Federer's form
by Venkatachalam on Apr 04, 2008 10:54 AM  | Hide replies

Federer is no longer the winner he was an year ago. I think tennis has become more open for both men and women as there are lots of youn players lurking around the corner to win tournaments. Or may be Federer and Henin have lost their appetite for winning tournaments.

Except the 4 slams, all other tourneys give appearance fee to Federer, that are sometimes more than the winners' cheque. That's why he can't afford to pull out from these tournaments. But just before the slams, he must take a break and compose himself. His fitness is not very good recently, ever since the stomach flu he got in Oz.

Its not the question of form, but the fitness.
I think still, fedex rules.
Take some rest and come back.
We want you to win more Grand slams.

Rest Fed ... If need be..
by Pooja Das on Apr 04, 2008 10:33 AM

Its wierd that Fed hasnt managed to reach the finals of any tournament this deep into the year. I dont think its gotta do with his form ... he's as good as he has been in the last 3 yrs. I think the injury's playin its part more than expected. Fed must be careful and if need be, pull out from 1 or 2 ATP tournaments so that he's geared up fr the remaining Grand Slams.

federer please be choosy.
by bkpaneesh on Apr 04, 2008 10:23 AM

federer is good i think there is extra bit of additional burden. what he needs to do is to be selective in playing tennis to ensure quality tennis.

roddick is consistence if he is consistence he can be uno-1. i think there is little bit of diversions. he is not able to chanalise his energy towards winning matches and become more versatile in his game . ofcourse same thing applies to federer also.

Federer seems getting close to his normal form
by S Yadhunath on Apr 04, 2008 10:12 AM

Federer did seem to be playing his normal self and got back the second set with grace. Hopefully he'll be back in his usual form for the Grand slamd round the corner.

French Open!

When Fed was winnin everything, he kept losing at the French Open... now wen he's losing, maybe the French Open is his to be won!

Well, it's more of a hope than practical analysis.

The Kooyong invitational is not counted in the stats as it isnt "ATP Affiliated",if thats the currect term.

You are right. Its not an OFFICIAL ATP tour event so doesn't count as an official match.

feels strange
by arun mehta on Apr 04, 2008 09:37 AM  | Hide replies

it feels kinda strange to c the words "FEDRER LOOSES".....over thr yrs its become such a norm to walk into any tournament and humiliate every other player (mayb except french open)that its somehow tough to digest.....i hope he can do for another more yr.

Its not only the form or fitness that is hindering federer to win, but more and more players are believing that they can beat federer on a given day. Its completely evident from the roddick vs federer match. Federer played very good tennis compared to other 2-3 previous tournments. But he still lost coz roddick was mentally strong this time and played awesome game.
If this trend continues, federer might keep losing matches like these ones in future as well. But since he has long career left with him (probably 5-6 years more), he can sometime overcome the number of grand slams won by sampras for sure !!!! wat say guys ??
