If India would have won in Cricket too....
by Namita on Sep 09, 2007 09:42 AM  | Hide replies

I saw all sorts of comments here. People are more interested in Hockey now. But tell me the truth : If you get a chance, what would you watch : India winning the cricket-final in UK or India winning hockey-final at Chennai?
We are more interested in Cricket. This is a fact. And it was because of the Indian players. We are very good in Cricket. We have the potential of winning World-Cup in Cricket.
Media shows what people want. They don't make the rules.
But definitely, I am proud of our Hockey team and wish them to win in every match.

Hi Namita

I totally agree with you .. When I saw that India made 187 in Natwest Final yesterday, I stopped watching cricket and turned to DD-Sports and started watching Asia Cup HOCKEY SemiFinal instead. Although I love cricket I also love watching Hockey a lot as its so fast and thrilling and it gets over in 70 mins (plus a 10 min break in between) Cool. These days under Joaquim Carvalho as Chief Coach INDIA looks a resurgent side full of raring youngsters & senior players supporting them well.Amazing hockey they are playing and WIN % has gone up significantly since Carvalho took over the reins. We as Indians should be proud of our National Game Hockey and the way Indians are playing I forsee a 1-0 or 2-1 Victory against toughies South Korea in ASIA CUP Hockey 2007 FINAL oday. KOREA is a TOUGH NUT to crack..BUT we too have NUT CRACKERS like the Minzs, the Reghunaths, the Shivendra's and the Prabhjodhs & other Singhs dont forget we have the mighty SHIELD in the form of our Goalie.. Namita Please pray India wins this one & the Centre decides to revoke its decision to sideline Hockey from Important category in Indian Sport. HOCKEY was, is and will be India's National Sport. Namita and all my other sports loving friends..Please dont miss the exciting tough battle between holders KOREA and INDIA today LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on DD-Sports (18:30 HRS IST).

CHAK DE INDIA... KOREA KO BEAT KAR DE aur ASIA CUP HOCKEY 2007 KAA KITAABH apnay NAAM KAR LAY.

cricket is shown more as media and corporate houses can show more ads on 10 hr match than a 70 minute hockey match...its all indian government and media that is responsible for our dismal performance and support in olympics....why they dont pump money into such sports and improv facilities in these sport???why rs 800 cr is hanging in cricket?? and then too you can even reach the quarter final of world cup 2007 what a shame on indian cricket

Indian cricket is crap. After struggling to reach the final they give up like amateurs and could not face the challenge from new comers like Mascarenhas, Shah and Panesar who sent the Indian team packing to the dressing room. Guess there must have been a lot of corporate house PR team waiting to endorse the likes of Yuvraj, Agarkar, Chawla.
With absolutely no support from the media, corporate houses and govt bodies the Indian Football, Hockey and Billiards (Rupesh) have rightfully bought a little cheer which we all are so proud of today as against the corruption, scandals, sportmaship in cricket. Just becoz India wins some and looses more does not make cricket a treasured game. The players should take a leaf from Australia and their continuous winning streak.
Enuf said, Indian Football, Hockey, Billiards and Chess rulz...Hail the new champs.

Hollow Media!!
by Harbinder Sidhu on Sep 09, 2007 09:28 AM  | Hide replies

Its a matter of SHAME on part of the media for not covering the RECOVERY of HOCKEY-is it because Hockey cant afford the media;or,is it because Media doesn't understand anything but Cricket! I feel ashamed of the likes of AAJ KAAL TAK,etc.High time you jokers woke up,instead of covering humiliating defeat after defeat, morning, noon & night-these so called stars play for big money for no responsibility;whereas the Hockey stars put in their best inspite of being given stepmotherly treatment by one and all(except Dr.MAM Ramaswamy, when he was the IHF Chief). What does it take for the media to cover a Hockey match? There is one channel, who goes out of its way into the private lives to give the audience some mirch-masaala!There is another who tries to be bold to fix celebrities including some of our corrupt,....less politians & so on;why cant they utilise good time for a good cause??Things are changing for the worse in a so called independent society! If our media electronic or gastronic are bold enough, they should apologise to the Indian Hockey Team for giving them Stepmotherly treatment. We are not asking you to stop your chamchagiri with the bigwigs, rich,or corrupt-carry on the way your ZAMIR allows, but,do not ignore HOCKEY??

Shame on Media
by Hemant Kumar Ganjhu on Sep 09, 2007 07:58 AM  | Hide replies

Hi Friends,

I am really shocked to see the reaction from the Media on Hockey - I was watching the news and saw a line - BREAKING NEWS - India won against Japan 4-1 But on the screen there were few people talking about why India lost in Cricket - what they should have done to prevent bla bla bla

I hate these media channels - I died to see the winning moments of Hockey but none of the channels covered this - Isn't it shameful - I want to abuse the maximum for such a shameful act but this is being a non-abusal portal - no writing - I get happy when they are being attached - cause they are worthless Bast......ds.

You have hit the nail on the head. Our TV channels seem to think that cricket is the only game that anyone in India is intrested in. Two or three days before the Indian cricket team plays a match we will get some absurd reports about what pitch to expect or about the fitness of some players or even some visuals of the players practicing at the nets. While on the same day even if India wins some international match in hockey, chess, badminton, tennis, football etc. it may only get a one or two sentence mention without any visuals. Even in this rediff report there is not a single photograph of India winning the semi-finals. The only images are some connected sites of Japan and Beijing. This is really shameful.
