Reach the top 50 in the world in anything then talk about someone's talent. She is a decent player and has come strong even after all the negative publicity about her attire and fitness...what makes you think the govt has helped her at all...this is an individual sport and let her play. enjoy the game and as an indian its always good to see our countrymen/women do well in a global sport. she's an achiever and all you jealous morons can have your day in the sun when she loses- that will happen at sometime but do you even know what it takes to qualify for a GrandSlam? you'll never know cus u'd probably not have even qualified for your local club tournament. I think the kid's inspirational, and i know that her meteoric rise to the top 50 earlier in her career encouraged a lot of young kids to take up the sport.

Sania

Why is so many people very negative about Sania and her ranking. One should not expect her to win all the time and any ranking under top 50 is very credible when there are so many good and strong players competing and most of all its their job/profession.They earn their bread and butter through tennis so the dedication and hard work is very serious for them, unlike in India where sports is something of a hobby. It cannot be their profession as they will not servive so they have an alternate job to keep the kitchen fire burning.Players from other countries take sports as a prefesion and they work hard and will do anything to be successful. If sports is encouraged as a profession here there will be thousands of world class atheletes and sportsmen. Then you can say i am from India proudly when people ask you during olympics and international tournaments instead of denying it and claiming to be a Bangladeshi. Its better to be known as a Bangladeshi or a Sri Lankan in the international arena as the impression of India and Indians are not exactly flattering. So a Sania(irrespective of her ranking) is well known as a talented player from India as they don't know of any other sportsmen from India as there is none to remember except a odd Sachin, V Anand and of late, Jeev Milka Singh.People appreciate Sania more then we do.There is no harm in appreciating someone who is talented and Sania may not win tournaments but she is talented and very well known as she is the only tennis player under t

Hi Jam Hangzo,

I must compliment you on your determination to sit and compose a very long message for this forum! But there is only one way to describe the content of your article - putrid! For your information, Ms. Sania Mirza is also a Tennis Professional - meaning she too earns her bread and butter through tennis! Also, she has been very well supported by the Govt, fans and the media over the last three years! Still if you think that her getting in and out of the top 50s is a creditable achievement, I am afraid, you do not understand the standards of the game played at international levels! You have done well to mention at least a few Indian sportsmen who have made it big in the International sports arena - however, your list of just three players really makes me wonder if you follow any sports at all! Let me remind you that we have had world class performers (whom Indians like you may not remember, but the rest of the world salutes) in many other sports and games like Hockey, Billiards/Snooker, Badminton, Shooting, Atheletics etc!

(I have strong reasons to believe that you too are a big fan of Ms. Sania Mirza's looks, just like many others who vehemently oppose to anything written against her in this forum! Grow up friend; GET A LIFE!)

Best Regards

instead of going out on a Sania Mirza bashing spree, please let me know if there is any other indian even completing for honor in women's tennis. The prob is not Sania mirza, its the fact that sports in india revolves around cricket and so does corporate sponsorship. You think the govt and private companies have invested a lot in sania??? well, its nothing compared to what her parents out in at the start. Tennis is a rich man's game in india and without sponsorship, its hard to play and travel especially if you need to score well in exams and have a steady source of income... How many of you guys would encourage your kids to abandon studies and go all out in a persuit for excellence in sports??? I'm very fortunate of have come from a family rich in sporting tradition. I've played table tennis at the national level and so haev my cousins in rowing competed at international level. You wanna know where that got me in life??? - Nowhere... it didn't put me through college, didn't get me a job.. why bother???? instead i gave up the game and did study a bit and i'm glad to be where i am with a good job and income i could never have dreamt of as a sportsman

Not a big deal

Sania in top 50. is it a big news. once she was ranked 34 by ATP. She is unable to balance her performance and fitness. either she is injured and lossing or winning couple of good match an dthen out for few mths. India has been always a dark country regarding sport fitness even in case of cricket.

hope some one tell her bat the importance of fitness and she got some proff fitness trainer. She is makin lots of money thru ads so she can afford atleast a decent fitness trainee. If once she can be 34 ranked she can reached there second time too
