Having played Tennis at the college level in the US, i have analyzed the problem of Sania Mirza and i would like to share it with fellow rediff bloggers!!
Problem no.1 - Sania Mirza has too much flab which she is not able to shed - Cos of this flab, there is too much pressure on the knees and shin and she has these niggles and injuries which prevent her from competing at her best!! If she really wants to be a top 10 player, she has to work on a strict, intense physical fitness program!! As i see it, she is atleast 5kg overweight!!
Problem no.2 - The absence of a professional coach who is a former tennis great - Only a former tennis great can understand what a professional tennis player goes thru, the ups and downs etc etc, this professional coach takes care of all aspects of the game including practice sessions, pointing out faults, video footage of other players, working on weak fronts etc etc
Problem no.3 - A very poor serve that is just not good enough at international level, in fact i'll say that her serve is poorer than college level players i have seen!! Her second serve is pathetic to say the least, look at her double fault percentage which can reach alrming proportions!!
In short, if she works on her fitness, gets her serve right and employs a great coach, there is no reason why she can't reach the quarterfinals of majors on a regular basis!!

Keep your analysis to yourself. You probably know it is easier said than done. If u r a college player..you know very well how hard is it to play professional tennis and maintain the ranking. Sania is a professional and knows pretty well what her weakness are..im sure she is working on it. She already made it to Quaters in Singles and Semis in doubles...HOpe she wins both the titles at cincyopen..GO sania..

I think your knowledge and understanding of the game is limited; so your turn to keep your analysis to yourself, nobody needs it!! Sania has never made it to the quarterfinals of any major!! Go and check out the Sania fan site!! Her best performance is 4th round at the US open in 2005!!

I have been closely watching her game for couple of years. I certainly agree and second voice your thoughts. She probably has left another three four years of competitive tennis left. If ever she needs to win a grand slam, she has to have improve her fitness tremendously.

Fitness?? look at Serena williams..she has thighs twice that of sania's....She won 8 majors...just cause u look little chubby dont mean u r not fit...All sania has to do is improve her server and reduce her unforced errors...she got the game..to win Grand Slam..

I agree with u..she is playing top class tennis and seems to be getting more comfortable on the hard court at cincyopen...if she can improve her serve a bit and reduce unforced errors..she should be looking at the title..

Get up daydreamers...if this....if that...sania and topclass tennis...ur dreaming buddy...just dream sania play games with u ...rather tennis which could never be able to do....
Get a life..If not for sania...there is no Indian women even close to what she has achieved in tennis. It is easy to sit on your ass in the office cubical and type few words bashing sania...being a pro in tennis world today and maintaining the rank is no joke...it shows her consistency playing at high level tennis...GO SANIA ..WE R WITH U..GOOD LUCK AND I CAN SEE HER WINNING a Tournament soon with the form she is now..
Though I spend more time reading the comments rather then the article, i have started feeling sick reading some of the recent comments. Wonder what rediff moderator is doing. People,.. have some respect for our fellow indians. be it sania or be it sachin or be it dhada. They are real achievers from among more than a billion population. How did sania get all these sponsorships and fame. Its all because of her talent. Its such a competitive sport and for a girl it would get a lot worse to manage with all these physical demands of sports. We should laud her for what she has achieved and encourage her. You oggle at her, you wannnk at her and do anything at all, in your imaginations. Just for the reason that you have anonymity in the net, you shouldn't put your rubbish thoughts into words. and publisise even. I wish Sania ALL THE VERY BEST and look forward to her winning some titles. Grand slam is not at far reach for her. its very much within grabs. She will have to improve her serve and net game. Which i am confident, she will improve upon. Cheers SANIA!!!!
