Bjorn Borg is the greatest player
by Sreedhar Manchu on Jan 28, 2007 11:58 PM  | Hide replies

Hi Friends,
In my opinion Borg is the greatest tennis player. He will be greatest for ever. The simple reason is he has won 5 French opens and 5 Wimbledon titles. Can Federer do it? I am sure he can't. It is impossible for any player to play that good on both grass and clay surfaces. But Borg proved it continuously for 5 consecutive years. He just retired when he was 24 years old. Otherwise he would have won 30 grand slams.

Pete Sampras couldn't even reach French open Finals one time. If I remember correctly he just reached semi finals only one time eventually losing to that year winner Kafelnivkov. Where as look at Agassi. He doesn't have that great service. But he is the best when it comes to returns. He is the best baseline player according to Tennis pundits. He is the best baseline player Tennis has produced in all its time. He proved it by playing on all the surfaces. If he had taken Tennis seriously enough in his early career he would have won 14 grand slam titles just like Sampras. He is the one who made Tennis a fashionable game. He is the hero of masses. He is the one who had most number of fans all over the world. I am sure that every one will agree with my opinion here.

Coming to Federer he will become second best player ( I mean first is Borg). I am sure that he will eventually win French open.

Our generation hasn't got a chance to watch Borg. I strongly recommend for the avid tennis fans to watch Borg matches with McEnroe to know how great player he was then. After that I am sure that all of you will come to the same decision.

He who wins on all types of surface-grass,clay and hard court is the greatest.Federer is yet to win on the toughtest surface-clay, where the games can last upto 5 hrs.It is a grueling test. One has to play at the highest level of fitness, finesse and endurance.Roger has not yet got it!
I'd rate Borg,Wilander higher that Roger!

Players has to be judged not only by matches they win, its way they play and the shots they make.... Roger is perfect..... No one can make the shots as perfect as rodger... I bet rodger can defeat borg, pete wiht out any doubt.

Just for statistical clarification- Bjorn Borg reached US Open final four times and lost all four - to Connors and McEnroe. He also played Australian open once and was out in the quarterfinal. Does that make him a smaller legend? It's Federer's dominace that has made him all time great and not the number of titles he has won although the latter follows automatically if the former happens.

Also, Borg retired at an age of 26 (not 24) and he was past his peak in 1983 when he retired even though it is almost certain that he would have won Slams if he had opted to continue. Borg's peak was from 77-80 and as a matter of fact he could not win any Slam in 1982. I am not arguing about the greatness of Borg; rather I am simply saying that lets stop comparing Federer with Borg as that is practically impossible to do. I can make out only one thing- if anyone could ever come to the perfection in Tennis, it has to be Federer and not anyone else and that will not depend on whether or not Federer can win a French Open.

Borg was like a well oiled Machine. His wins were, though admirable, were not exciting enough. Sampras also played in simlar fashion. Federer's Game is sheer Symphony! Beautiful to Watch! You would have listened to Vijay Amrithraj. Hard to tell who is greatest!

Federer is the best player tennis has ever had.
Thats the reason why he is referred to as the KING. Federer has broken many records , not to forget being World No 1 for the longesttime ( earlier held by Jimmy Conners for 160 wks)
hats off to the guy and may he break the few remaining records ,if any

he plays unbelievable tennis, of course he has his ups and downs... but he is the best, pete never performed well at the french open, andre managed to win wimbledon once, fed-EX will defenitely win French once for sure for he has the game and mentally he is strong too... ask A.rod, what it feels like playing fed-ex. to me he is the gr8st simply because of his consistency, which no body has achieved... may god bless him and may he win many more slams and keep people enthralled with his poetic backhands....

poor roddick.. u kno .. must b thinking dat if he was in d odr side, he wud ve avoided federer n wud ve made it to d final..

Roger Federer is a good player no doubt. But still i feel Pete Sampras was a better player. and Aggasi was the best! winning all 4 grandslams.. no match for him.
Roger is dominating currently coz theres no other gud player right now. Still... Congrats Roger!

The master demoralizes the opponent, regardless of whoever it may be. Generally, during the course of second set, the opponent starts talking to himself.
During the third, the opponent runs here and there making himself a laughing stock.
I think nobody has achieved(?!?) this.

Federer plays tennis better than its inventor.

Kudos to him.

King Fed!
by ssbmat on Jan 28, 2007 09:28 PM

Every generation has its own legends.Fedex entered the league during the sunset of Sampras.
The speed of the tennis game has moved up a notch or two, and significantly so over the 70s 80s and early 90s. What makes Fed great is that he has DOMINATED the tour completely since he won his first major Wimb-2003. He has won 10 of the 15 Grand Slam tournaments so far. That is a statistic that CAN be compared across generations and will have virtually NO match. So Fedex is gr8 in the manner in which he has dominated his era. Not that the likes of Nadal,Hewitt, Roddick or Blake are chumps, but he hasnt not allowed them to rise enough!!

Fed is the greatest
by Sridhar Adiraju on Jan 28, 2007 09:09 PM

He is absolutely a delight to watch. For the next 4 years, I doubt if anyone would come close to him. As much as I like Fed's game I would like to see someone really challenge him so we can see a more improved Fed (Not sure if there could be such a thing!!). I really used to like MJ's athelitic ability in basketball. But, after watching Roger perform consistently at such high level, I don't think there is any sportsman in any field who is comparable to him.
