Sania Mirza: Long way to go?
by M. Shankar on Jan 19, 2007 11:38 AM

It looks like Sania Mirza is yet to realize her potential, though she shows a lot of promise. I really think what she needs is a worthy coach who can correct her out of her faults and make her do the right things - her forehand serve as she herself admitted, or backhand, or whatever it takes. I think it is also important to understand and analyze each opponent and play as the situation demands. There must be studies, there must be strategies for each match. I don't know if her father, as a coach, does enough, or he is happy with her as she plays. May be that is the limitation, not working hard enough, and scientifically enough! She herself seems to have expressed happiness with her father as the coach, and said he is quite 'easy-going'. I think she needs to plan well, what she wants to do, phase by phase, and not move robotically set to set. She can do far better, and we all Indians desperately want her to be a world beater.

M. Shankar.

Sania deserves backing
by on Jan 19, 2007 11:10 AM

Yes,Sania needs more application forcontinuing the winning march. Her rise to stardom is justified and backed by her feats around the world. Please do not write her off as she has some very good years to perform to our satisfaction. We Indians should remember that she is the only girl in history to carry the Indian flag at Tennis Grand Slams.

Sania Misery
by on Jan 19, 2007 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

It is clearly evident that Sania does not have the brains to become a better tennis player. As Jaideep Mukherjee said yesterday, she does not plan any match, any point, she has no idea of a game plan vis a vis the opponent. As such if its an exceptional day, she wins..rest of the time she looses. Tennis is not about just whacking the ball, its about taking your ability, partnering it with strategy and giving it your best shot. Its also time for her to realise that her father is just not a professional coach. He has done what he could do and now must hand over the reins of her future to professionals. Finally our media. Lets stop idolising Sania as she has done nothing to deserve it and a few random performances do not make her a great or even a good player.

Not enough desire to win
by Uma Venkatraman on Jan 19, 2007 09:04 AM

Sania Mirza is talented but talent alone is not enough in the cut-throat world of tennis -- it also take hard work and a desire to win that should be above all else. Many 20 year olds and many younger than 20 are doing much better than her. If she wants to break into the top 20, she has to change her attitude -- nothing should matter to her but winning. Her goal should be to win tournaments, not a round or two.

Sania Pray Well & do ur best
by senthil ganesh on Jan 19, 2007 01:09 AM

Please guys dont cultivate the habit of yelling if a person is down. Its simply the hardwork that brought her to this level, and sure she will correct her mistakes. Even she knows age will go fast but its something that she says to build her confidence. DONT EXPECT HER TO CRY OR APOLOGIZE US ON FAILURES.Mere Comments is entirely diff then putting in action. SAnia ! work hard! pray well. NOthing is impossible

her not so professional attitude will mark her downfall..yeah she gotta early start, but she should try to alleviate game and please stop saying that you have enough time...Age and time ll fly in a jiffy..With a over 100 matches she sud be able to decrease her unforced errors not the otherway round...

She is still very young
by Sunita Ramnani on Jan 19, 2007 12:03 AM

She is only 20 and still very young. She will definitely win a grand slam for India after the age of 40 like martina navratilova. she may not be a champion in tennis but she is a champion in giving smart alec answers.
