No doubt she is very talented girl and has awakened the girls in India for the tennis.Beware ! Sabatini in the past brought crowds & cheers but not GRAND SLAM TITLES sufficient enough.Display good tennis not else.

Sania should decide whether she wants to be a tennis player or a style icon since 2006 she is behaving more like a style icon. you cannot be a pretender in tennis you will be duly punished.

As Expected!!!
by balaji ganesan on Jan 18, 2007 07:26 PM  | Hide replies

As expected and predicted an exit in the 2nd round clearly proves her inabilities to win a grand slam after playing so much of tennis. No point in praising her this much. Being the best in india never ever matters. Stop portraying her as a champ hereafter and accept the realities.

Never Mind!

Getting to the top rung is one thing and staying on top is another. Sania is at least one woman in the whole country who has come up to this far. Even if she is ranked in the 50s, have a look how many more who are after her. One thing which we have to look at is not at how successful or contended is Sania but to understand the very fact that how much scope is there in other games other then cricket. Our youngsters should take up such games like Car Racing, Tennis and Golf which not only will bring them pride but are also lucrative.

Sania overrated and overhyped
by mast male on Jan 18, 2007 06:32 PM  | Hide replies

Sania is another example of our 'starved for heroes' country. She is highly overrated to say the least.
A few victories here and there does not make a champion.
At 20, players like Martina Hingis, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova were Number 1 and were winning Grand Slams.
Sania has only ever reached the 3rd Round of a Grand Slam. That is telling a message loud and clear.
Being the best in India is not good but not good enough. So, while I do admire her, she is nowhere near an idol.
At best, Sania is good enough to be in the Top 20 in the world.

There was a article presented here in rEDIFF four years ago about a certain Federer who was struggling to fulfill his promise. He went onto win wimbledon in a month and we all know the rest.

Patience people. Players are not judged on one day or even few days.

Yes I agree with the views expressed here. It is the media which is spoiling the charecter of our young talent by projecting them as if they were the best in the world. I wonder if our players were as good as the aussies, what would have been the response! The commercial world is another to blame! Too much pampering!

Concentrate only in Singles.
by ramesh babu on Jan 18, 2007 05:42 PM

I wish Sania plays only singles matches for another four years and start playing doubles thereafter so that she improves her performance.
I have a feeling that she is worried about another match when she is playing singles matches. It is not possible to give 100 percent while you try to save energy for a doubles match as it involves one more person.
