It is a very proud moment in the history of Indian football. With cricket stealing the limelight, football had to always shadow cricket. With the dismal, toothlees show in the onedayers and the bickering and politics with overinflated money being floated in cricket, it's about time we give football a chance to become a sporting obecession in our country.
Hope India wins more matches and much needed money pour in in football instead of cricket. Good show! Keep it up! Thank you Mr. Houghton. India owes a lot to you too.
Great news to fans of football, if not all the time we read only about cricket, a game which India mostly looses. I hope more money is spent on this sport where by atleast we can appear in one of the world cups finals.

yeah football has a huge fan base in India, that is why EPL and other european leagues are famous here. if the Indian football team plays some good football, people will sit and watch football. and with such management India won't be appearing in the word cup for the next 100 ears unless they host it.
the country lacks the interest for the worlds favourite game its only wins like these that can generate interest atleast in the younger generation and yes lets mark this as the beginning and aim for higher goals in true sense chak de India

Houghton intelligently invited such teams so that there was a fair chance for India to win and bring more spectators (and cash) in future!

Gautam..why dont u just look at FIFA rankings and accept that India (152nd) beat a much higher ranker opponent (110 odd)?? Great achievemnt..i just hope..money flows into this game now...and it is developed the right way. Atleast if naturally talented kids from bengal, kerala, punjab and goa take this sport up, we cud form a decent team in the future..it is all abt nurturing talent..provide them incentives to take to the sport. After all we were once asian champs..there is no reason why we cant be that again..
Congrats India!.. You have done good job not like our cricketers.... Our governemnt should spend more money on football than cricket. Then, definitely we can find much more improvement on football

foolish comments, Indian govt doesn't spend any money on cricket. why only football? all the sports should be encouraged. it is childish to blame cricket for the shortcomings in other games. so long as people like Kalmadi and Gill are laying eggs at the helm of some of the sporting bodies, nothing will ever happen.
This is one of the great moment in Indian sports hystory. This has to be a new era in Indian sports . Support football , hockey and Tennis rather than wasting time on watching substandard cricket of our team. More over it is great moment India defeated a strong arabian team. NRI s in Gulf regions knows the importance more when India defeated Syria. Proud to Keralite player to score the one and only golden goal to win the famous Nehru Cup for the first time in hystory.CONGRADULATION GUYS
