Viren has all rights to know the reason of not selected for Doha meet
by Mukesh on Nov 28, 2006 09:19 AM

There should be a very transparent system not only in hockey selection but also in all parts of sports so that the deserving candidates are not left out.
ever since I have started watching Viren I have always admired him and I see him always a dedicated player in our hockey team. Never been into unwanted controversy.

Politics and Sports are an unhealthy mix.
by Neelesh Khadse on Nov 28, 2006 09:07 AM

I'm at my wits end to understand the association of politics and sports.Hockey being the national game and with such deserved being treated this way, there is little hope that the sport will be able to break away the from the shackles of desdain corruption in our system. In other words by doing this the leaders are crucifying the hopes that each Indian harbors in him/her to see the country flag flying high in an International level. Once a country to reckon with in the sport of hockey it has been a joke of, off late as is evident from the world cup. I hope Viren does not end up a forgotten entity in a few days in this whole matter, now that the media has got into the act.

Rediff, it is through you that we can voice our opinions and I trust that we as a whole can hold this issue in limelight until concluded, which is of utmost importance.

Hockey
by raju subramanian on Nov 28, 2006 09:05 AM

The dictatorship & unfair selections have become a regular pratice in hockey. It is high time all hockey lovers gather and throw out the present management and try to restore glory to indian hockey. We have had enough.

PREJUDICE IN SELECTION
by George Samson on Nov 28, 2006 08:55 AM

First of all I feel sorry for Viren. But I am also happy to see that players are coming forward to speak out their injustice meted out to them. Not only in hockey it is showing its ugly dirty head in all sports.

Only can hope that someone will one day realize that PRIDE of the Country is at stake and not the interest of few people. And select teams on the best of talent available and not on recommendations.

PITY INDIAN SPORTS

IHF tricks and traps
by INDRANEEL CHANDRA on Nov 28, 2006 07:54 AM

I must congratulate the yound lad to have exposed what we always feared - Indian hockey is been run by vested anti-nationals. It's a shame the Govt of India is mute to this ordeal. It's strange how come no one is held accountable for wasting taxpayer's money and sweat of our young and proud lads ? Crafty politicians take advantage of our sport bodies and extract a heavy toll. Govt should kick out all politicians and beuracrats from all sports bodies. Only professionals should be allowed to run the show. It's a wake up call for all - else we all go down the dino way.

Unfairness to my son's icon, Viren.
by Gregory Trinidade on Nov 28, 2006 05:44 AM

My 10 year old son's icon is Viren and he is very much a hockey player too but when he reads this article I am sure he will lose faith in the Indian hockey team selctors and drop the idea of Hockey as I did, when I was meted out with the same dose 24 years back during the selections for the Mumbai junior national hockey team.
Well Viren they did it to Edgar Mascarenhas too and he took them to court and won and now it is you. This shows why India is lacking in major competions because the cancer of favouritism is huge here.
Dont worry we are with you and I am praying for the best.
Cheers,
Greg

Someone in authority do something!!
by Shekhar on Nov 28, 2006 03:41 AM

I have seen Viren's story through the article. Now if the IHF is honest they should put their side immediately. We all have seen and continuously see, how IHF works. So if nothing happens in this matter too,IHF will add one more black medal to it's name. Well, that's nothing new for IHF but yea, Viren's career will be doomed.
