Italians deserved the World cup 2006.Right from the group matches they were excellent and brilliant in their performance.The tactics of Lippi were superb.I hope italians will continue this form for the coming years and I expect them to take the 2010 World Cup too.
Full marks to the Italian team. The defenders Guarded the goal like a rock and they have conceded only two Goals,that too one self goal and one penalty.
Whatever I had expressed (in rediff) about what the results could be, from time before the semi finals, have happened. I am impressed at the success of my gut feel.
It was sad to notice France bowing out in penalty shoot out. France played a better game overall. It was further unfortunate that Zidane shd have such a game which was supposed to be his last. If Matterazi had uttered something too offensive, he shd be also penalised by way of a ban for two matches or any other penalty
Why can't the trophy be shared and the finalists called joint winners (as is done in Cricket) if neither team wins in period including extra time ? This could be considered atleast in the finals of any football tournament.
The process of deciding the winner through penalties in any final is too painful an experience for any side, and hence it is high time FIFA thinks about it

I had originally held that Finals will be between France,Germany or England.When France went to the Finals I rooted for France,because of the matured line-up.But congrats to Italy for winning,under all the mental stress etc.But I am delighted that the likes of Jumani and other numerologists and similar hoaxers, that FRANCE had a 'R'etc etc in their name,and hence they will win has been proven wrong, and I am happy about it.Great to have seen this world cup, VIRTUALLY sitting there in Germany, was a treat.
This was one of the fantastic world cups that I have watched so far. Every thing connected with that was superb ! Such mammoth arrangements made in a meticulous way; even if there are some shortcomings, should be ignored ! What I found the most embarrasing aspect of the game is: What a treat was given to the football mastreo Zindane Zidane ! Does he deserve, such a callous treatment ? The legend of soccer, who saved France many times, and brought glory to it. Doesn't matter if France, do not win the world cup ! They are the runners up; only next to the giants ! Every thing, does not go as per the rules. There is an element called 'Humanity'! If any one uses the discretion correctly, it was a glorious time to call the captain, on the dias and say few nice words for what all he has done for the game, in general and to his country in particular.Don't bother about that unfortunate incident. Did any one bothered to investigate, what the Italian striker was talking to Zidane. Might be using some objectional words ! Can you imagine, a person of Zidane's calibre hitting him with his head ? surely there is some thing fishy ! We have done injustice to Zidane not giving him the honour !
