They weren't going to miss the penalties this time. Italy were just mentally the strongest team in the tournament. Their attack wasn't very effective, but whose was (besides Argentina). Matches are now usually decided by 1 goal difference. Defense was definitely the best. I think the Buffon save off Zidane header said it all. They had faith in themselves, were gritty and determined all through, and hung on knowing that it isn't over until it is over.
