Sania Mirza

Sania Mirza lost in the second round in the Aussie Open. A big deal?. No. In Tennis you lose some days and you win on some days. It is very early in her career and she has a long way to go. This will in no way end her carrer and she will definitely learn from her mistakes. Just as some readers suggested that she need to be patient in her rallies, the readers need to be patient in their expectations and can not expect wonders from this young kid overnight. The media also need to concentrate on her game and hightlight the game and not on what she wears.Tennis is a hard sport and playing in the hot temperatures needs lot of stamina, which on this day Sania might not have. Encourage this young girl and do not just say she is a flash on the pan etc...etc...

Lesson for the media
by prasad on Jan 19, 2006 06:29 PM

Sania'a early exit is a lesson for the media not to create hype around budding sportsmen/sportswomen. Because such hype always creates extra pressure no matter how tough a player is.
Hope Sania will spend more time improving her game, specially her serve and come back strongly instead of spending time endorsing brands.

start winning more pls...
by Kiran on Jan 19, 2006 06:00 PM

Hightime our media's champ wins more & talks less... what finally matters is winning, not tee-shirts with messages...
Also, hightime media get's more sensible & responsible... The Vishwanathan Anand's, Harikrishna's & Humpy's are playing for India & winning tournaments & making India proud.. (I wonder is these name strike any note with the media at all) Anand is world #2, Humpy is #1 in her category... are they not deem fit for iconic status??? or loosing more than winning is the criterian for that status (or is it the dashing dresses???)..

It really hurts as a sport enthusiasts when overnight
some one who hasn' been winning majority of the tournaments participated in & is injured most of the time, being compared to some all time greats who have dedicated their entire life for the game & created records which cannot be even dreamt of...

Media hype razed Sania
by Zubair on Jan 19, 2006 05:30 PM

It is not the Sania who crashed out of the Australian Open rather it is the pit fall of the media that has diverted her attention from tennis to advertisements. Sania needs to improve upon her serve which is unimaginably weak and vulnerable. She should rather concentrate on her game as she is no more an ordinary girl rather a representative of the nation.

vicotry/faliure are part of the game
by Soujanya on Jan 19, 2006 05:11 PM

Victory and faliures are part of the game. Over-rating of one's victory or under-rating the loser does not add value to game/player. Media should focus on pros and cons of the match. The fact, Sania lost the match does't shrink her charisma. Sania continues top the chart amongst the most inspried personality in India

Sania Mirza
by Sundara Vardhan on Jan 19, 2006 05:06 PM

I think it is time that Sania shows better consistent results than being a flash in the pan. She seems to be distracted and not focussed on her job. She can rant and rave and be brave about the public take her as she is (that is she will be error-prone). That is all good if she belongs to a country which produces tennis players by the dozen. But Sania is representing her country and lot of youngsters look up to her and she CANNOT lose focus. She has now become like our Indian Cricket team, very engimatic and erratic in her play. Being consistent is what makes a top-ten player.
