India has 30 satelite news channels. 1000s of vernacular press. hundreds of maazines. what matters if some Time magazine puts her on cover. This is a billion people nation. What matters is our opinion? When will u stop craving/begging for outside recognition????????????? Does any U.S/U.K sports person blow up anything like this if he/she is put on rediff.com?????? Sania - a role model for the Indian women says the TIME magazine. While it is true that she is one of the greatest Indian players(her records speak for her). It would be really wrong to put her up as role model for the 500million women in this country. A lady sarpanch working for the development of her village, handling the pressures of family life and the organizational life would be a much better candidate. Infact there are many working women who lead life in cities like this, balancing family life and corporate life on the other. Wont they represent the true face of Indian women, liberated from centuries of male dominance are increasingly asserting themselves. While Sania has also much to her credit, but in the process of presenting her as a role model arent we neglecting the role played by millions of women who make significant changes to the society around them , but hardly get the credit or publicity for it.
